I suppose it has become too expensive to make REAL ice cream.

Real ice cream? I've had it. The store bought, processed stuff tastes much better. People are sentimental about the oddest things.

Hey Snakes, Whole Foods is the most expensive rip off around. I say that affectionately, as my son works there, and they are a good Co to work for. TJ's on the other hand, is even cheaper for the most part than your regular grocery stores. I suggest you do that once a month thing, and use your freezer.

    John Doe,

Gopher, isn't it possible that the average customer wanted smaller cartons because they didn't finish bigger ones before they spoil? Just playing devil's advocate here. ;-)

For such a smart guy, you sure can be silly!

High fructose syrup has been in the news for a while now - it seems that the stuff has been added in most of the foods here in the USA since the 70's, right around the time the fast food epidemic began and obesity started......likely links between the two since reports show that it actually alters the cell structure. You can get a lot of the non HFC products at Trader Joes. Coffee has been creeping up a LOT in the past few months, ditto dairy products but you can still get a can of pork n beans in the store for under a buck. Just make sure you get the regular size can. I actually saw cans half the size being sold for the same price - sammieswife.

    "Real ice cream?"

    The bomb!

We make it here at the house. I found a package for an ice cream yogurt maker at Sam's for nothing the other day and we have been making all kinds of yogurt and ice cream with it. Pretty Yummy! See if you go to the dairy section at our local store there is a section where if you don't mind getting the milk on the last day or maybe three before expiration, you can get a gallon for 99 cents. Often yogurt is 50 cents for the big containers. The all natural ingredient ones are marked so high they almost always head to expiration. So we get the best for the least.

But I also have noticed the prices going up. Rice. EEPS! And what about the large juice (organic) no longer on the shelf. But the small container is the same price?

Not mentioned yet are the genetically modified foods. Yes, once again we are being served lookalike foods with extra genes inserted to give them certain qualities, but not always nutritional ones. From what I have learned, they are barely tested, so if you eat GM foods unknowingly (they are not labeled) then you are a corporate lab rat.
