It all starts off pretty benign, when she suddenly says "Well, you believe man can solve the problems of this world"... She says this because I've ran for political office twice, losing once.
I know where this is going... so I say "I've never said that is our only hope, I just recognize that I live in this reality today, I'm here now, and God's kingdom isn't.. it's the men here now that run things, if God ever steps in, then I'll gladly move aside as I'm sure any man would".
She says something to the effect, that we disagree on that? That of course pisses me off, so I say "how do we disagree"? "Look, God's kingdom isn't here, who else is going to run things if it isn't men, and as long as it has to be men in the mix, it shows proper love for my neighbor to run for office if I think I have good ideas and I think I can help".
She suddenly has to go....
I call her back and leave a message that further explains why I feel what I do... she calls back and says "she hasn't the energy to debate me now". WTF?
Here's the point, if "bad things happen when good men do nothing" or something to that effect, then me, being a good man, should step forward and do something. I know that Jesus' kingdom is no part of this world, I don't know if I believe this but the Bible says it's so... but the fact remains that I live in the now, I'm in this world and God's kingdom isn't here now, men are in command and I want me, and my neighbors to live in as good a world as possible. Who else is going to run things if it isn't men/women like me? We need more good people in politics; how can we do unto others if we allow bad/greedy/self serving men take control? How can we love our neighbor?
I've seen no biblical explanation as to why a so called "Christian" can't be in political office... what the hell? Yet one more thing the JW's have wrong.
So, I have this conversation with my crazy JW cousin/Jw's wrong again

I know...lets all don white robes and sit on the ROOF of BETHEL BROOKLYN waiting for God to wisk us off to Heaven. Anybody? Thought not.
In the MEANTIME while God is taking his sweet time reappearing, if indeed there is some sort of savior reappearance imminent, mankind is in charge of this planet and without SOMEBODY taking the bull by the horns down here total ANARCHY is what you will have and whether the Dubbies like it or not they live in a free country here BECAUSE of the actions of men taking charge of things in Gods stead.
She can go wait on the roof at Bethel. Tell her to bring plenty of publications because its gonna be a looooong wait.

I hear you Dubs, it's like, why can't they see for themselves before they make it what a stupid comment that is?

I think the real reasoning is that not only are you consorting with the enemy (and Satan it's ruler) but that if you; as a "true christian" get mixed up in politics and government that you'll not only take away time from promoting the kingdom, you'll also take away the case they make that governments are not really effective and that only god can solve our problems
Mind you I don't quite believe that. I do believe as they say we face some daunting tasks ahead but it's not unsolveable. When the JW say that man can't solve our problems that is the biggest lie they tell. It's not true, we CAN solve all the issue we face.
It's NEVER been a question of CAN, but rather a question of WILL. Now if the JW wwere to change tack and ask "Will mankind solve our problems?" They would answer no...and I would probably have to kinda agree. man can and they will try but I feel there is a real lack of will to make the hard choices necessary.

I recall one Christian being asked "Why isn't God doing anything thing?"
He said "But He has."
"Whats He done then?
"He put you here. He has told you how you treat your fellow man. Whether you decide to or not is up to you. If you walk past a starving man in whose hand is it to give him food, yours or Gods."

Jringe, yea I've heard that from JW's myself, about the Kingdom and the like... but that's like you said, that's non-sense. I don't know if man can solve all his problems, but God isn't doing anything. If it isn't man then who's going to run things. And worse yet, other men will damn well step in whether we do or not, and they may not be as nice as we all are.
Aniron, I agree with you -

If a Christian should not be in a political office I would ask your cousin why God used Joseph in a political capacity to save the nation of Israel. And why he used Daniel in a political position in Babylon.
