I have been to Dubai on holiday twice and I love it. Yes it is pure over the top luxury but if you want to be spoilt then you definitely will be. I love the 'out there' approach to architecture displayed in Dubai. Everything that is done in the leisure industry there is done to the highest standards.
As for poor working conditions; I have spoke to people who are working in the leisure industry who come from the countries mentioned and they come because they can earn more than they can in there own countries. They work solidly for long periods of time and then take a month or more off to go home. I am not saying that there have not been problems within the building industry with the labour force over working and pay conditions, but you do get those same problems all over the world.
