Of course, there are so damn many rules that it is impossible for them to have any fun. And they are always looking for ways to prevent them from making long trips.

Leaving just after work on Friday and returning in time for work on Monday morning. Yes, we weren't too productive on that Monday. You can't do that all the time because you only get one Saturday a month off if you're a brother.
working saturday mornings was introduced for this very reason

Geoff Jackson came to Charlotte a couple of years ago visiting a family he used to study with in NY. Part of his trip included a visit to Discovery Place when it had the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. A few of the congregation joined him on the tour and were amazed when he was able to point out the tetragrammaton to them in the scrolls. He also gave a special talk Saturday afternoon to our congregation, which was really just a feel good talk about the preaching work, he went over time by about 20 minutes. I do like Geoff, he is a hell of a lot more real person than silly putty face Steve Lett.
I really don't know if Charlotte, NC would constitute a holiday, it's an ok city, but I would head out to the beach or the mountains nearby. -

OK - so much for the ordinary Bethelites, and now we must ask:
What about the elite overseers and the governing body? Should we suspect perhaps a dual standard here?

Bethel has several "vacation homes" (nothing fancy, just a house or a cabin) in various locations around upstate New York. I believe they are on a first-come, first-served basis (as usual, any conflicts are resolved by "seniority"). Bethelites can stay there free of charge, I believe.

There was more stuff about it in Spanish than English, but there was a big flap a few years ago when Milton Henschel and his wife went on vacation in Malta and stayed at a 5-star hotel even though there were over 500 publishers in Malta he could have stayed with. When people asked Uncle Miltie and his wife what they were doing, the anointed couple blew them off. Decent article in English (although it bungles the name of the hotel):

Here is the hotel where they stayed:
