You are right if they use it as a debit card with pin. They have been using it as a credit card tho. So the funds still come out of my checking tho not right away
That sucks IP, I'm not sure how its possible to use as a credit card, there has to be some dumb a$$ retailers out there.
Last year in Alberta there was this gas station and the guy did something to the debit
machine where it copied the pin numbers....he made a killing till he got caught. Sure hope that gets worked
out quick.

In the USA at least, you have the choice to run a debit card as debit or credit. There is not much difference on how it works other than no pin is needed, only a sig to run as credit. The sale still post direct to your checking account tho sometimes not as fast as if it were debit.
I always use mine as a credit card because I cant be bothered to remember my pin.

All the major dispenser manufacturers encrypt debit info at the customer terminal at the pin pad. Except Gilbarco. Gilbarco dont encrypt until the data hits the POS to go out to the network. In that case, someone could tap the data loop and pick up ppls info. All of it. Everything the card reader had scanned and everything typed on the pin pad.
Thats all about to change. Some new federal regs are coming down the pike next year to make encryption at the customer terminal mandatory. Also tamper proof pinpads and card readers.

Not only that criminals have been targeting ATM machines at the banks with some sort of plate they get your card and pin...
But recently most chartered banks have installed some sort of gadget in the slot to prevent this.

Debit can come out up to SIX MONTHS later, under certain circumstances. Straight skinny I got from a bank manager.

Ugg they should be shot, That happened to my company CC one day, I got called into the office to explain my charges, $500 at a shoe store, $400 at an electronic store, $200 at Walmart, well it went on and on ended up being like over 4,000 in charges, they knew it wasn't me but they enjoyed giving me a hard time about it.
