Here's the scoop on people's tipping habits from my kids who have worked in restraurants:
Best tippers:
Business men (especially if they drink)
Elderly couples
Blue collar men in a group
Worst tippers:
Anyone under 30
groups of women of any age
African Americans (not being ugly here, just speaking from experience)

Oh, and you're right about attitudes. The most demanding patrons tip the worst. The nicer the patron, the better the tip.

In my experience the best tippers were NASCAR fans. They drink alot and keep you busy, but they are so much FUN!
