I've read the entire bible 7 times. This may surprise those of you who know I'm not a christian, and in fact am proudly pagan. I do know what it says, I just don't believe it has the inspiration nor the historical accuracy that others inpute it with.

    Hi Gretchen,

I don't think it's surprising that you're a pagan. I read it over several times in a few translations and am now an atheist. In fact this familiarity with the Bible as I posted on the 1st page helped me to see it for what it is, imo.

In 1998 i got a schedule to read the bible in one year as it is used at bethel - 15 Minutes each day. Starting that year i read the bible 5 times according to this schedule (ok sometimes some chapters behind but i was able to manage). Last year i stopped with it (wonder why)

I read it while at Bethel. It's interesting that it was during that time and during that reading that I discovered Deuteronomy 18: 20-22. "The Lord works in mysterious ways." I go to the world headquarters of a modern day false prophet where I learn about the definition of a false prophet. How's that for irony?

When I was in 9th grade, I had read through the Bible twice and read through the Aid book about three times cover to cover.

really really really old threads you're posting on here

But what's wrong with it to recycle old threads ... as long they are interesting?

(This posting is made of 100% recycled bits of eMail)

Yeah, I read it about five times all the way through. Never did get it. I just kept hoping it would make sense...

I first tried to start reading it when I was preteen sometime...I told my Mom and she said, "Jehovah will really bless you for that!" I got all excited...

...got a few chapters into Genesis...where was that blessing?? I gave up. (took it up again when I was 16 I think. Never did get that blessing!)

    No

My father tried to get me to read it and I don't think I got past Exodus. The whole JW deal put me off history and I always managed to fail my history exams while getting top marks in other subjects.

I never read any doctrinal material properly, even the study books and WT articles. I would try to sneak my parents marked litter-ature and copy their underlining.

stillajwexelder, this is the third thread from 2001 I've seen you resurrect here this morning, just wanted to make sure you were aware that these are really really really old threads you're posting on here. Dantheman it is deliberate - I joined only a year or so ago - I try to read about 10 old threads a week - especially if I wake yup about 02.00 am and can not get back to slepp -- I am trying to catch up with all the old threads that have been posted in the past and the odd one I find very interesting and decide to resurrect - sorry if it annoys/upsets you -- I love this board and and trying to get up to date with all old threads - went through all the 9/11 threads this last week
