Can anyone tell me - are all rosarys made the same? I mean strands of 10 beads, separated by 1 bead, repeating 5 times on the upper section. And on the lower section near the crucifix a 1-3-1 pattern of beads?

Basically all the same, they help you count your prayers. The groups of 10 are called decades. There is a short rosary that only has one decade. I've learned most of it, and pray quietly over my child when I rock him to sleep. It gives me great peace.

If someone values you they will usually offer as a gift something they value. It is subjective to their values but the gesture is a sign of great affection and concern for your well-being.

You must treasure your gift and the friendship of your friend.

Hey, I want credit as a friend. I gave you a mousepad with a tiger on it.

No, I am just prodding one of my wonderful friends. LOL.

It's easy to get along with Jeff. It's easy to poke fun at him, too.

Best wishes to you and your new rosary.

Intersting take, Longshanks. I sort of agree.

I had recieved a rosary as a gift once myself. My friend that gave me the gift passed away a few years ago. I still have it on display in my living room. It was special to him and he wanted me to have it. He knew of my JW upbringing and he also knew I had no use for any religion.

Agreed. It made an impression that is likely to last a lifetime too. I wonder if my mailing 'Truth books' out to relatives when I pioneered had such a positive effect?

Ah! So it is karma that is nibbling your bum!

Here you go... as you were interested in the 10 beads separated by one, etc., and "are they always made like this" the answer is yes, each bead represents a prayer.

A very cool explanation of the prayers for each bead is here:

And I think it is awesome that your friend gave you one.

    Love,
    Baba.

Even though you have no use for it, it's a lovely gift because of the intent.

How nice that you are no longer a witness and therefore are not horrified by this gift!

I can't help thinking of what my JW mom would do if someone sent her such a thing!

Yes. That was a bit more practical. I am using it now.

I had a childhood friend make me a necklace with an upside down cross that he drilled a hole through that traveling missionaries gave him. I loved that crazy thing. It was something from his heart. I wore it to my first apostatized fest, feeling some sort of bond from it. Anyhow, I have lost the cross with the fish off of it. Guess they will not give them wire to thread it on in the can, but even worse, I hear he got reinstated. WTF? I have spoke of him before and he is the one that went from JW to addict, to prison, and then a robber, white supremacist. Well now he is back in the JW's. A prisoner for life with a huge swastika and tats all over of melting flesh, and why a JW? I don't know.

I don't believe all the things he has done are good. who of us are, but to find he went back to the JW's...well it just broke my heart.

I do understand that if someone gives you something especially if hand made, food music or a token...cherish it. They are giving you a piece of themselves. Those things are the best to give and receive.
