I've been to a few pricey political dinners paid for by my workplace. They were mostly formal affairs, and after speeches we would get a nice hot dinner and a few bottles of wine on the table. After dinner there would be dancing and a cash bar.

I don't think our party would even dream of serving cold chicken salad.

When I met my hubby he was tall and skinny. We made quite a pair, a tall skinny man and an amazon woman with big hips. It happens.
