heres what i'm having a tough time with....
they announced exactly what his restrictions were.
is this right? i thought just an anouncement and thats it, why start naming restrictions ? next, they'll be stating reasons for df'ing and stuff. When I was publicly reproved in 1973, they announced specifically what restrictions had been applied. From the other comments in this thread, I gather that such announcements are now at the elders' option.
Actually, how many of you remember when they use to announce the actual "sin" to the congregation? Not only that, they would announce it throughout the circuit that Bro or Sr so-and-so was DF'd for so-and-so sin.
When was that? I became a JW in 1969 and it was never the case for that sort of information to be formally announced. Of course, informally was another matter. Somehow, those confidential matters became public knowledge faster than you can imagine. Could some of the elders have loose lips?Tom

I can remember a few instances at the meetings regarding dfings.
1. I was visiting one congregation, and a sister was announced as being DF'd, I asked my buddy who was that and he said, she doesn't go to this hall. I asked why announce it, he said because she was in the circuit and explained the whole concept.
2. One sister in our congregation disassociated herself by writing a letter, she apparently became an SDA. The letter was actually read to the class.
3. I can remember a few occassion when either the elder went on stage and announced Br. so-and-so has been df'f dor fornication. Or the dfing wold be annunced without the specifics, and during the "needs of the congregations" the PO would go and give a talk on the perils opf fornicating. Pretty much everyone knew what the brother did.

Actually I know of one case where the elder's wife told other wives and sisters and well...now you know the rest of the story.

Wow. In 30+ years as a JW, I never heard a direct announcement that so-and-so had been disfellowshipped 'for fornication' (or whatever). Of course the 'local needs' talk a week or two later was pretty standard, and if anyone couldn't figure out from that what the disfellowshipped person had done, he could always find out from the elders' wives...

I can remember a brother and sister being DF'd the same night and an announcement made that they were not involved in the same judicial situation in case someone tried to add 2+2 and got 5.
