I saw this on Saturday and...
NOW I AM A SERVANT OF THE DARK LORD BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
... it was very cool.
Visually very faithful to the books; eerything looks as it 'should', which is really hard. The screenplay was an acceptable compromise between the brevity neccesary in converting a book to a film, although one part (the Dursley's leaving Privett Drive to escape the letters and being hunted down by Hagrid) was done very badly.
The actors were excellent, and (thank god, nothing against American's, but I object to English stories being Americanised for no reason other than American cultural Imperialism) an excellent cast of top-quality 'supporting' English, or I should say British (as Robbie Coltraine is great as Hagrid (and BIG!)) actors backing up excellent performances from the new talents of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville and Draco. Harry is spot on perfect, Ron needs to be more scruffy, and Hermione is wonderfully superior at times.
A new 'children's classic' movie, with six more to come apparently (there's going to be seven books in all).
AND I saw the trailer for 'Attack of the Clones' AND 'Fellowship of the Ring' is out in December!! Has anyone seen the trailer for the LOTR film? I downloaded it; the hobbits are little (even though they're normal sized actors)! Ah! The wonders of CGI (I assume).
One thing I find really funny... in the US the film is called 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', as was the book, instead of 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers' Stone', as apparently the publishers were afraid many American's wouldn't know what a Philosopher was!!! I love it! The best American jokes are the ones you guys make without realising it!!
