    Rem,

I think his nickname refers to how his mind works. *sigh*

Why do I get the feeling that I see a "black knight" torso humping around like a snail here, telling everybody how much he knows about the topic?

    JanH:

Coming from you, I will wear your remarks as a badge of honor. Your debating tactics are very poor and forgiven. You remind me of many Elders I served with, very condescending and short of spirit. However, if you just come from apes like you and your friends say you do, you deserve a pass. Why act any different? No need for “moral worth” in life.

I too got sucked into name calling too. I regret it. Enlighten persons do not act that way. Instead of exploring all sides with an open mind, persons were ridiculed for exploring and considering all sides. I must offer apologies all around and hope the information I posted will be useful in the pursuit of truth.

    Escargot,

No need to apologize for being such a dumb nitwit. You represent your side very well in this debate. LOL

    Hi Jan and Rem,

Enjoyed your posts. I gotta hand it to Escargot--he must have the skin of an armadillo to stay in round after round and be so obviously losing. Tough guy!

What I remember about Neandathals is that they were a competitor along with the Cro Magnun man and lost out. It seems that it was unlikely that they bred as they were so different. Neandrathals also had 12-month pregnancies and larger babies, so that too would have made interbreeding unlikely. They also looked very different and might not have seemed attractive. The way I understand it there are no descendants of Mr. & Mrs. Neandrathal, but Cro Magnun won out.

    It's an interesting discussion.

    Cheers!
    Pat

Escargot doesn't realize it, but the information he posted says the opposite of what he thinks it says. So the information he posted really will be useful in the pursuit of truth! ;)

Marilyn, you are correct. Escargot seems to think evolution is strictly linear from ape to man when it is not.

Ahem...can someone explain the concept of 'natural selection' to me?

I've also been under the impression that evolution teaches that all animal type life evolved from the same point of origin. I got this same impression from Jan's post about the 'junk dna'. Is this what evolutionists believe?

If it is, how does natural selection fit into that idea? How would the evolution or survival of the fittest transcend into so many varieties of life? What would cause 'natural selection' to select so many different paths?

    siegs,

Basically the many varieties of environments lead to the many varieties of life. Different organisms find an advantage in filling a niche in the environment. Not all organisms can live off of the same environmental niche because there is too much competition for resources. It's easier for an organism to survive if it doesn't have so much competition, so there is a trend toward variety.

Did the varieties in the environment also evolve? Did the environment (plants, water, air quality, etc) affect the evolution of animals, or did evolution affect the environment? Did they evolve together?
