Why haz this DEBATE on (evolution v/s creation) stil lively & well after all these years, when,it iz impossible to prove either case?
Posters like (jan) exibit lots of arrogance & name calling when challanged, why?
My theory: People that have been involved in some religion (like the Borg),after finding out they have been deceived swing their scale too far to the opposite side in a typical "overaction!" They brissle at anything suggesting of (God the creator) & try to explain life in clinical terms with evolution, void of any loving creator. In a nut-shell,because they were fooled once, they distrust & resent any kind of control over their lives by anyone but themselves, & subsequently assume that anyone not agreeing with their position on evolution iz some kind of brain-washed religious idiot deserving of contempt!
The BOTTOM LINE iz no one can prove chit, hell, life could be an illusion!
Of course, I could be way off...lol

    I agree COMPLETELY.

    We should all "jolly-up".

Those darn people who believe in Relativity, Gravity, and that silly Quantum Mechanics are in a cult too.

Everyone knows that god keeps gravity humming and atoms whizzing around smoothly. Some people are just materialists, I suppose. Darn cultists!

    Science is bad, mkay?

rem, are you saying that the law of gravity & common ansestry between man & ape iz synonomous? Are you ruling out divine intervention at all stages? Remember one must first define the type of evolution & then prove it.

No rem, what you SHOULD have said was:

Science is just as bad as Religion, mkay?

Moman, you can never rule out divine intervention but it's pretty weak as an explanation for anything.

    Moman,

Found your argument that many who leave the JWs turn to belief in evolution because they want to reject a belief in a controlling god as interesting. It's also the same argument that the WTS used years ago in the first book on evolution. And makes just about as much sense now as it did then.

I have a much simpler explanation, which Jan made quite clear. Evolution is simply a fact of life and science. When you leave the Witnesses and can actually think for yourself on this issue, and you take the time to investigate it, a thinking person simply has to accept the facts.

This really has nothing to do with a god or creator. It's simply an explanation of what IS. Many evolutionists believe in a god, and all the more power to them. Where there is a problem is that many religionists continue to believe the myths of their religion, its stories, as though they were literally facts instead of truths spoken in metaphor. The myths of religion - like the Genesis accounts - when taken literally, simply collapse under the evidence of science.

Perhaps you live where you've been able to watch Bill Moyer's discussions with Joseph Campbell on "The Power of Myth." Where I live it's running right now on PBS. Campbell makes clear how ruinous it is for humanity when religion views it's truths as the only truths, and how foolish for religion to view it's myths as literal.

Why does the evolution/creation debate still live on? Due to the fear of literalists and fundamentalists to take an unbiased view of their beliefs. The ideas of evolution will continue to, well, evolve and expand. Religious fundamentalism will continue to devolve and shrink as more thinking people leave it behind.

    Oh boy...

If you don't like evolution debates, don't read them!!! How DUMB is it to read stuff you're not interested in? LOL!

moman; Most evolutionists here acquire their beliefs through study, reversing their previously held beliefs because of that study. It is very offensive and arrogant to dismiss such people's thoughts based on some half-assed theory they don't believe in god 'cause they are sulking. It's also a very tired old and stupid theory, one that JW's and fundamental christians use.

What did you say about brainwashing?

If you want to have a debate about evolution, fine, if you want to insult people who like debating about evolution, go forth and multiply.

You want to believe in god, go ahead. If you are happy not rebuilding your life from the ground up, great for you

People living in glass paradigms shouldn't throw stones...

Seeker, I am not promoting either position. I have studied anthropology & religion, & I find neither conclusive, thats all. Some people completly rule out an intelligent creator & dogmaticly say that man shares ansestry with apes. I am saying that its a huge gap to fill!

Abaddon,When someone takes a position & then insults any one that doesn't agree with them, I question their objectivity, thats all.
