Oh come on yalll...... it wouldn't be that hard to re-vamp the WTS.

I could get its numbers back up with a few changes.....called new

Enough people would stay on the sole basis of the 3 core even if they threw out all of Rutherford's dates.

Are you sure that active JWs actually look at websites and chatrooms such as this? They're banned from looking at such sites, don't forget, and JWs are very obedient folk by and large...

    Let's see....

    born-ins

    doubting

    faders

elders on the hunt for wayward ones

relatives and nosy congregation members on the hunt for wayward ones

I met a congregation member online. She was on the quiet fade. The elders freaked out and could not believe that we met over the internet and had never met in person. They said enough to her for me to know that they HAD read some internet stuff. After our relationship was busted, she left the congregation.

I believe that the initial crack in the Watchtower's dam was in the emergence of the inernet. I commented on another thread that for the first time in history, the Watchtower leadership is trying to grapple with the fact that millions of people now have ready access to the writings of Russell and Rutherford (with their false prophecies) online, scans of letters sent to bodies of elders, Ray Franz's books sold online in several languages, downloadable copies of the elder book and branch manuals, and exJW youtube commentaries. All of these developments have come about at break neck speed. The WT leadership view itself as being under seige from Satan. Therefore, they are responding with behavior that stems from a seige mentality.

I believe that the Watchtower leadership is displaying its same old reactionary predispositions by its constant drumbeat regarding obedience, compliance, and unanimity. They are also harping on "apostates" like never before. What message is all of this sending to the bored and uninspired teenagers with internet savvy? What is it telling the elders who are already troubled by many of the organizations unscriptural policies? The only thing that the Watchtower leadership is doing is puting up huge red flags.

The Watchtower's belicose chest-beating and legalistic authoritarianism is only going to drive away much of its youth and spawn larger quantities of longtime members to fade. They are indeed at a cross-roads. Major self-reflection and introspection is needed. Major reforms will be required if they wish to remain viable. However, my suspicions tell me that this is a religious ruling body that is much more interested in being right.

I think the YouTube vids will have a huge impact. I've noticed the 'bros' are posting their own vids there (of assemblies and such), and it will be too tempting not to click on at least one 'Related Video' on the side bar.

I never, ever, ever thought I would lose my faith as a Witness. I lived and breathed the "truth." I still go to meetings and I have a talk next week, but wow, what a difference.

It seemed so strange to me at the assembly, the lack of applause except the final talk. Plus the way no one talks about the program after it is over like we used to. And I could be wrong, but it seems like the speakers are nowhere near as dogmatic as they used to be.

Well, I should say some of them. I have some friends who are just as zealous as ever. They are in and in all the way. They just love it, and anything bad is explained away, just like I used to.

But seems things are changing fast for a lot of people. I hope the snowball effect, or the tipping point happens soon.

As most on here know I came out the other side as an ex-Jw that wants to go back, and however much you get to the "tipping point", it just doesn't end there! because once your out you have to deal with what is on the outside. Firstly other faiths if you use the same analyse as you are willing to use on WTs you come up with similar issues you only have to listen to people saying what a wonderful mystery trinity is, then if you reject other faiths you have to deal with a world without answers, nothing is simple and even though I have searched, all roads have led me back to Jw's, faulty prophecies an all lol

I am not sure that the comparison of JWs and Christian Science is too valid though. As far as I am aware the Christian Science was fairly passive in their proselytizing. All I can re-call is Christian Science reading rooms.

Jws are far more proactive in their recruitment. What is more, often their key target areas are the vulnerable. So we see growth in 3rd world nations but little in the West. What little growth there is in the West seems to me to be coming from the "foreign field" rather than the native population. So we see Mexicans targeted in the US, Eastern Europeans, Africans and Chinese targeted in Western Europe.

I could be wrong by my conclusion is that the JWs will continue to see enough growth to perpetuate the "God is speeding it up" story for a few years yet.
