MINIMUS- Most of the elders I dealt with at times; or those who chose to deal with me - were not worthy of respect, so no I did not respect most of them. They were fake people playing a role. A few good authentic ones- but they were in the minority

NO. I had 2 elders come over to my house, sit me down and tell me how bad it was that I let my daughter play Volleyball on the school team. Now, both of these guys are in their 40's and neither of them even has kids! One of them tells me, "Even though we don't have any children, we know there are some decisions like this that are very hard to make as a parent". Then I told them that this wasn't hard at all, and it was really a no-brainer. (That didn't go over too well...)
They didn't want to reason. They didn't even want to talk about it. I had to get her off the team or else I was going to loose my "privs" .....
I felt like telling them, "Hey, I have an idea....how about letting me raise my kids the way I choose, and you guys can go outside and practice falling down!!"
How do you show respect for idiots like that?? Gymbob

Did You Have Respect For The Elders In Your Hall?
Yup except for two - one was abusive to his wife and children and the one I was married to who was abusive to his wife and children.
And there was one other from 30 or so years ago that I thought was sexually abusing his daughter. After they left our hall a story in the newspaper said once the girl grew up she reported him

My point might have been a bit loose minimus but what do you expect of elders? do you think you can goto any other faith or any other organisation from governments to army and not find examples of all of those mentioned above in their leadership? I beg to differ, If we read the bible the one thing it doesn't pull it's punches on is how leaders can just be as nasty and bad as anyone else! even jesus didn't even have people respecting him in bethlehem simply because they remembered him in nappies and sucking his thumb.
I may lose respect for a certain elders if they are so bad it reflects in them being an elder and i hope that they get the job taken off them...minimus do you think there are faiths out there with leaders that will be immune to going bad or wrong?

I used to - I guess I bought into the whole thing about God's spirit lead organisation and respect for his arrangements etc.
Then, I became one myself and saw the jockeying for position and infighting etc.
I once handled a situation totally by the book (The Elders book). But because it was to do with the son of an elder in another congregation who had 'contacts' in Bethel, I (the local Body of Elders really but obviously aimed at me) got a snotty letter back form the Branch. I wrote back again and said that we had to be careful that should not become a case of nepotism but nothing was ever really done to address the situation. -

I can understand your words eyeslice but why is elders being mperfect men such a stumbling block we could interchange this conversation inserting "Elder" with any other leader title "bishop" "Vicar" "cardinal" ""Pope" and have the exact same conversation on them?
Lol I shouldn't talk on these "WTs allows terrible people as leaders" thereby implying that God would not allow such men into leadership with his chosen faith threads.
I just find these threads provoking lol give me a good doctrinal discussion anyday they are more realistic on why we should be for or against any particular faith.

If they treated me with respect I respected them too. Having said that most of those I knew were assholes (did I say that aloud, scuse moi)
Mind you I've come to believe long ago that there is something in organization that makes men into either pussies or assholes, usually both. I remember being at "pioneer school" ya know, one of those after a year of "service" where one of the highlights was when an instructor (whether out of his own accord or from the borg I don't know) told us in no one certain terms that we are to be basically spineless and humble. (I've heard later similar comments from MS schools so cant be just a coincidence) My question to him was, if that is so why then did Jesus take a whip and kicked everyone out of the temple... It didn't seem it fitted their description at all. His response? Well Jesus was perfect. So I suppose if you want to be more like Jesus, forget what WTBS says an kick some ass.
