ex-nj-jw... I hope you've been able to find love in your life... Having a mother who doesn't love you sets you up for a tough run of things, however I'd like to believe we can get beyond the sorrows of our childhood and have a fulfilling life in spite of the setbacks...
(when) Did you stop believing?

It was a gradual thing; I stared praying for thing that I really care about and or needed. I am not talking about money, fame or any selfish thing.
But every time I prayed, I got no answer. I prayed with all my faith, with all my might, but no answer. It was very frustrating to believe in God, and have my prayers unanswered. I felt like I was unworthy.
So over the years I make peace with myself and I can’t believe in it anymore.
Take care,
Ismael

After accidently clicking on JWD last year.......(and reading the older publications on PDF and many of older postings by veteran JWDers !!!!)
I have to credit Terry though the most because it was his comment that caught my attention and made me later log back on to JWD.

The more I studied science, the more I was tempted by Pantheism - and seeing God in everything. I read books that suggested that ESP is a universal phenomena, widely manifested in the animal world. Prayer seemed to work for anybody, not just Witnesses.
As to the organization, I became angry when I read about the 'Bulgarian Compromise' and other material exposing how intellectually bankrupt the blood issue is. I read the entire Aid book and concluded that not a single doctrine germane to JW's has any solid basis in historical or scientific fact, especially the 'name of Jehovah' issue.
