An anology to explain witness thinking.

  Think of a computer, the hardware is fine, but somebody changed all of the programming so that 2+2=5. You go into your spreadsheet and everything looks odd. You check it using the calculator function and get the same answers. You fire up C++ and start looking at it that way. Same thing. Something may look a little off, but everything you use gives you the same answers.

  The only way to find and fix the problem is to get outside the system.

  JW's have the same problem. Their programming is set up to always return the answer "the WTBS is always right." No matter what they are looking at, doing, thinking, reading, it always comes back to "the WTBS is always right." Only when they are able to get outside the system can they find the flaws in their lives.

  This is either a brilliant flash of light, or I need to go to bed.

  I prefer to think of it as a massive secondhand cibercafe shop with every type of faulty wiring available and no computer gets it right, one is labelled Windows catholism, evolution windows, baptist windows, agnostic windows, personal windows, and even a wts one, among thousands and you get people frantically jumping from one to another to pick one that suits them. but none can escape the reality that the computers all break in the end!

  Great thinking! I can't express it the same way, but I know exactly what your all talking about. It helps to have an analogy to veiw abstract concepts. It gives them flesh and blood and makes it more real.

  The interesting thing is, intelligence has nothing to do with it. That is why it is so difficult to undo. Because there are hearts and pain is involved.

  This is a reprogramming site and we are in a human sense, acting as a virus to the watchtower.( If that's the right term to use.

  The family as a unit works together, and has a very strong influence on our feeling/thinking systems. This is the key that gaurds watchtower programming. Fear is another one.

  I beleive that for some, heavy investment, emotionally, can create a point of no return in which case it would be time for new computer as things become more and more incompatible. In the human sense (a new head)

  A good analogy! In my case I believed my 'computer' was in fine working condition however someone put a virus in it and it has never been the same. I have consulted a few experts and even had an expert out to try to fix the problem in person to no avail. I have been waiting for the Master Repairman but I guess He has been busy with other computers elsewhere.

  I think of being one of Jehovah's Witlesses as having a computer with a horrible virus that corrupts everything you put in or get out of it. And, when you try to uninstall it, it will do all it can to stop you from uninstalling it. Even if you reformat it, there is the danger that it will forcibly re-install itself and continue.

  And there is no antivirus that can stop it, once it has installed itself the first time. You might be able to detect it after the first time, but it will force itself back on and take extraordinary measures to prevent you from re-uninstalling it.

  Being an ex-JW is like running Linux. You have access to all the source code and can change whatever you please, believe anything you like. Even though there are already 300+ beliefs (distributions) already, you can always start another one just to support that little thing you disagree with in all the others, even though you may abandon that belief 6 months later. You can form small online communities and have pointless religious disagreements with other communities just because you feel like it. You can even disagree with God (Linus Torvalds) and he wont strike you down dead. The downside of running Linux will be that you will be shunned by all your former friends (Windows programs) and you will have to say goodbye to them. Even though you will be able to find replacements (open source software) for most of them you will still occasionally miss the best friends you once had.

  I always called it conditioning since I was able to step outside but programing works just as well.

  It's a good analogy. It applies to other areas of life as well that people have been brainwashed in.

  People are specialist. They shine in certain areas and other areas they are like zombies walking around in a trance.

  Socrates said "the unexamined life is not worth living."

  Everyone needs to wake up from their trance.

  Everyone has faulty programing. Some only become aware of it when it starts to cause them difficulty.
