In words it is one thing. In practice it is quite different.

So in what ways has the WTS made the load "lighter"?

Well the new book study arrangement is the newest one but there have been so many more. I know I can't think of them all myserlf so feel free to add the ones you remember

    • from prepared nourishing food at assemblies --> crap food --> bring your own but keep it hidden under your seat
    • from large district conventions in large cities to smaller ones in out-of-the-way places so small that there is no where else to escape to to break the boredom
    • the DONATION simplification - I still don't get how "donating" when you pick them up and then "donating" anything you get from the householders is a form of DONATION - maybe you can help me understand how this is makes a JW's life easier

    Got some more

Making the "load lighter" by having to take an ice chest into a nice hotel (loading it onto the metal luggage thingy), go to the ice machine, take several trips putting ice into the cooler at night, then get up early the next morning and try to make sandwiches for your family in the tiny bathroom area,(then wash the knife),stack in cans of coke, small bags of chips, etc., put the lunches into a smaller cooler that you can keep under your seat, then pull it all out, realizing that you forgot napkins, have no place to set the drink except on the floor next to you as you try to eat with people sometimes trying to get by,all so that you do not leave the convention for lunch.

I made the load much lighter by blowing them off altogether.

Now that one actually does make the load lighter. I think the reduction for publishers does the same thing Quandry I remember up until they were serving some crappy food but left before the bring-your-own rules got implemented.

    • food tickets were a real rip off. I'm actually surprised they gave that one up since it was such a cash-grab for them - all unused tickets had to be donated and not carried forward for the next time

Hmmm I wonder if legal issues were coming up regarding food allergies, special diets, etc and they were forced to give it up before they got sued by someone.

    • do people have to buy parking passes? If so there is another rip-off all in the name of simplification
    • OK another - what's with the paper books - cheap cheap cheap. But here's the rip off - they won't last as long so if they have to study the book twice they may have already trashed the first copy and will have to get new ones - at a donation price of course. Thw simplification part? Not as heavy to carry in your service bag. Isn't that wonderful of them to literally make the load lighter?

I don't see though how discontination of the book study makes the load lighter. They still expect you to have a family study that night and to not necessarily limit it to an hour. They are just transfering loads. Although the load will be lighter for the smart ones that can see through the crap. They'll just count it as a free night

    That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.

what I thought was odd about the food arrangement was how much u were looked down upon if u ventured out of the convention and had lunch locally. In Long Beach, they even discouraged us from getting coffee at the coffee shop inside the stadium, and from buying lunch from any of the vendors set up on the convention grounds.

Yes all these weird restrictions made things so much easier for us.

Yea but what they "expect" JWs to do and what they will do are two very different things. I suspect that after a few short months most JWs will forget the family study. Now this gas thing has got to be another "lighter" load? How?

    • Hmmm. Now instead of traveling a short distance to the closer bookstudy you now have to drive further to get to the hall. I suspect more hoimes would be closer than going to the hall again.
    • I wonder how long it will take them to start asking for more money because they have more expenses in hall maintenance, heating, air conditioning, hydro etc.

How about the brochure on how to dress when visiting headquarters so we don't have to try to figure it out on our own?
