I have used my "Bible research skills" for a new purpose....to find the Winner of the Melbourne Cup horse race on the 4th of Nov our public holiday for horse racing! I have NEVER gambled but me and the wife are going to the race and laying down a bet. My research and tips from experts has lead me to this conclusion:

1st Septimus - The favourite to win. Won the Irish ledger by an incredible 13 lengths! Can't lose!

2nd Mad Rush: - Always finished in the top three.

3rd Nom De Jeu: - Won AJC Derby and came second in the Caufield Cup.

Septimus is a sure thing and many Aussie Trainers are furious that this horse has not been wieghted down after winning so bigtime overseas....some won't bother to race......so I will be in the money very soon.

    Thanks for the tip mate!

Will come in handy as I had no idea who to back in the cup.

    Cheers

you can make "box" bets too, and sometimes make more money betting a horse to place rather than win, if the favorite is being bet too heavily.

I'm a newbie at horse betting but it sure is exciting! I have the image forever etched in my mind of standing at the rail at the finish line and watching my horse win. It's something beautiful.

Update - Just check out Septimus on Youtube....WOW he blew away the pack and left them for dead at his last race!!! 13 lengths at the Irish St ledger cup is like winning by a football field!!! The horse in second was off camera for a good while!!! And check out the Carrah Cup in July Septimus wins by 7-8 Lengths he is miles ahead!!!

If you win you guys owe me a beer....by his other races this year he will only lose if he is dead!...thats why many Aussie trainers like last years winner Effiecent are mad they haven't given Septimus any handicap.

Update - "Nom De Jue" was ill and almost didn't make it to the Caufield cup....slight temprature and loss of appitite, may be due to stressful trip from New Zealand and Innoculation shots. However he was cleared by a Vet and really put the speed on at the end of the Caufield cup almost coming first which if you watch it on Youtube he may have done if he had an extra 30 meters!! So after 2 weeks rest before the Melbourne Cup will he be stronger or weaker..I think running second while being ill makes him a big contender...I recommend checking out Youtube and watching the races.

Last years winner "Efficent" has been scratched today due to injury so the odds get better.

Halcyon is correct you can bet a "Quinella Box" which is $6 and means two horses first and second in either order or a "Trifecta Box" which is $6 3 horses in any order and payouts can be $5000 or more.

Update - "All the Good" the Caufield Cup winner has been injured and most likely scratched.
