Ynot,
I agree with you that many women in the religion do not develop into mature adults emotionally and are stunted in some sort of adolescence. At least that is the way it seemed to me.
Thankfully, I wasn't raised in the religion and I came in as a young adult. I already had my own mind and a healthy sense of self-esteem. Some time down the line I was baffled at what I perceived to be 'childish' behavior on the part of some women. It was as you described. They weren't really adults emotionally but viewed the men as father figures or authority figures - even when the women were waaaay over age to even feel this way. I can see a young lady up until the age of 30 maybe acting so reticent, but not somebody way over 40. This is not flattering or normal, in my opinion.
I now know that the way I feel is part of the reason I was viewed suspiciously while I was in the religion. I am my own person.
As far as anybody not reporting something serious to the police because they didn't want to 'bring reproach on Jehovah', I didn't buy this. The way I see it, the sovereign of the universe doesn't need anybody to shield his name from anything. Besides, they always said we should be in subjection to the superior authorities. Funny how they don't think this applies to them as well.
