strong, with half & half poured in until it's golden brown.

When visiting my mother recently she made a nice pot of coffee and then pulled out a carton of skim milk. I had forgot that's all she keeps on hand. Makes the coffee kind of grayish brown. Ugh.

It's hard to believe people pay extra for coffee that tastes like sh*t.

But apparently this stuff sells for between $120 - $600 per pound.

Kopi Luwak (pronounced ['kopi 'luwak] ) or Civet coffee is coffee made from coffee berries which have been eaten by and passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). The civets eat the berries, but the beans inside pass through their system undigested. This process takes place on the islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi in the Indonesian Archipelago, in the Philippines (where the product is called Kape Alamid) and in East Timor (locally called kafé-laku). Vietnam has a similar type of coffee, called weasel coffee, which is made from coffee berries which have been regurgitated by local weasels. In actuality the "weasel" is just the local version of the Asian Palm Civet.

Hot and black. I cut my teeth on cream and sugar, but once I got weaned it was just black all the way.

I have a pot brewing now. Think I will have a cup.... anyone want one while I am up?

I enjoy Americano's. It's an Italian term for those people that can't handle expresso (i.e., Americans and myself), and water it down with water.

I no longer brew coffee the traditional way, I love it so much. It has a much smoother taste to it, yet tastes a bit stronger. And I drink it black.

Just buy one of those cheap expresso makers that you use on the stove if you're unsure, get some expresso beans ground up for you (they need to be ground very fine), and try it.

In fact, I'm having one right now.

Walter, how do you roast your own beans? Do you just warm them before grinding them?

    Edited to add:

Tim Hortons: HIGHLY OVERRATED. They are dirty, and they spike the coffee with extra caffeine. (To our American friends, Tim Hortons is a Canadian icon for coffee - Canadians go crazy for it, and line-ups are usually out the door here some mornings. Stay tuned... they're expanding into America slowly)

I know. But Wifey likes it anyway. I try and make sure the neighbors don't see it.
