They remove and destroy old books which are an embarrassment to them.
They have reinvented themselves over the years and do not want new converts to see what they have taught in the past.

You are all wrong! (nice way to start a post, don't you think? LOL).
What's happening is very simple. People like you and me are "borrowing" those books to check the facts about the JWs. Once they discover everything is fake, some forget to return those books and they become part of their libraries in case someone ask them about it. Others throw them to the garbage.
There is no library conspiracy. The GB knows the JWs are too busy with the new light to spend time with the old one. They are not worried.
