To be taught not to criticise or analyse what you are being told, to be taught not to think for one self and to be taught that information can only come from one source, to be taught not to listen to the reasoned argument of people with other beliefs should surely set alarm bells ringing.

Especially when this source has proved to be unreliable through decades of changing doctrine.

What will it take for people to realise? Even when they abandon 1914, will people take note? Will just a few people be "stumbled" and then the old teaching quickly be forgotten?

They are already playing down 1914. The number of references to it is dropping each year. The teaching is becoming watered down. Will any lurkers here say Yes I will leave the org when they drop 1914 as the start of Christ's presence?

Now and in the future, people will leave when they are ready. This has been and could be due to accumulating disillusionment and irritation with the organization and/or people, or it could be due to direct mistreatment by elders or others in the group. Sometimes it will be doubts as to actual doctrine.

As you know, the "groupthink" and conditioning is so strong as to overwhelm the average JW, and the repetition is mind-numbing. These things are hard to overcome, in spite of the obvious weaknesses in their teachings (doctrines blinking "on" and "off", the 1914 miscalculation, etc.).

Ah, the 1914 doctrine. Compared to all other beliefs of the WTS ... now that IS A BIGGIE! Or I really should say, the MOST IMPORTANT adjustment the WTS needs to make. Oh what changes will follow that happening. Lots and lots of adjustments will be forthcoming. Exciting!!!

No, to answer your question, when the "biggie" is dropped, and it will be discarded, I surely won't be severing ties with the WTS. Instead, THAT's when I'll be headed back to the meetings. Why? Well, of course it has something to do with my signature, below. I'll leave it for you to figure out how.

What is it that makes people leave? For me it was getting df'ed and so hurt that i finally decided to investigate.
I many times wonder how i could be so stupid and blind to this nonsence for most of my life.
I realize it isn't stupidity that kept us there. Even the well respected "Farkle" with much intelligence was there a long time.

What you're referring to as "major doctrinal changes" were actually quite MINOR when placed up beside the 1914 doctrine. You need to realize that. For that reason there's not much of a chance that what can truly be called a MAJOR change will be forgotten at all.

Even in society outside of the WT, the majority of people are easily swayed by the media and government propaganda. For most people, if they saw it on the news or read it in a newspaper or someone important said something, it MUST be true.

There is always a bigger picture, there are always more sides than just one to a story. Many things INFLUENCE what is being said, and things are often sensationalized to SELL something.

It is always wise to be critical (without being paranoid, conspiracy theory crap etc) and try to see through the 'fog' to get to the truth.

And just what part of "in order to do a refining work" do you not comprehend? To drop such a long held belief (a highly significant belief), due to finally recognizing it to have been an erroneous concept, will be an adjustment like no other of the past.

As to it having been a "false prophecy", that's simply what an apostate wishes to call it. The fact is, however, that the WTS considered what was taught to be what the Bible itself meant ... but failed to understand it correctly nonetheless. They taught what was construed to be an accurate understanding of the Scriptures. You call that a “prophecy”, but I call it sharing with others what is believed to be true regarding what the Bible itself said. When something such as this fails, you call it a "false prophecy”. But I call it an adjustment in understanding. That's the irony of a person that's fully asleep (meaning YOU) telling someone like me to "wake up" … although I am very, very sleepy and am definitely headed to bed this time.
