I would like to go there and bring my telescope. Then I can see the southern sky, with such as the Magellanic clouds. They are not visible from northern lattitudes and I have never seen them. I would also want to show LouBelle the stars and planets through my telescope, and perhaps she would treat me with some of her marvelous cooking.

Hi, Sorry it's taken me so long to post I don't visit this site often. I live in Cape Town and love the city. The wine routes are stunning. as Loubelle said Stellenbosch is a good place to start. There is also Durbanville Hill wine route, I live 5min away from one of the wine estates, there is also Paarl and Franschoek. If you stick to the man routes and don't wonder off into the ghetto type arears crime is well under control. Just be careful of pick pockets and petty thieves that look for soft targets. The beaches are beautiful and a day at Camps Bay is a must. The inner cities market in Long Street is worth a visit. A visit to Table mountain is an experience. If you're very fit you can walk up the mountain and travel back down with the cable cart. Just make sure it's a clear day and you have someone with a bit of experiece to go with you. Let me know when you're planning a visit. I will be happy to be your tour guide!

There is a lovely restaurant on the beach in Langeban called "Strantlooper" meaning beach walker, they do a seafood feast that is a truely South African experience.

December through to February is the best weather but March and early April is also still great just a bit cooler. Winter May - July is rain, rain and more rain. August - Nov is wind, wind and more wind.

    Look forward to meeting you.

This is the first time I have visited JWD in ages, and I saw ths post and had to respond!

South Africa is beautiful - rich diversity, majestic scenery, brilliant weather, friendly people. On the downside, we do have a huge crime problem, but I would not hesitate to recommend a visit.

Capetown is one of my favourite cities in this country, but there are many others too - gorgeous quaint villages and towns. Durban is lovely too, but completely different to CT.

I live in Johannesburg - also a great city - it is kind of the finacial hub of the country - I love where I live, I am but a half hour drive from gorgeous country side and African bush, but so close to where it all happens.

If you are ever in town, please get in touch!

I have had a braai with boerevors, drank a lot of pinotage, packed some biltong to chew on during one of my hikes into the bush. I am ready to walk in the land of my Saffa friends. Might even go native.

Gosh it sounds so beautiful..I guess we have to find a way to make it!

I went back and re-read some of the old data that I have and found addresses on Longmarket Street, Green Point, CT and Harrington Street. All foreign to me but fascinating all the same.

I'm a voracious reader and I'm always checking out the news around the world so whenever I read of massive amounts of crime, I just try to remember that in every big city there are people ready to do harm and we have to put those stories in context to the number of people and an area it covers.

The closest I'm getting at the moment is watching Gabon - Survivor - the elephants are so amazing!

Oh names and towns are getting renamed, very zulu, feel sorry for the tourists. Honestly if you ever do come and happen to come to durban, drop me a line and I'll make you dinner and give you good wine.

LouBelle, do you like your chicken strips dipped in Peri-Peri sauce? I was introduced to Peri-Peri sauce in Cape Town and I've been hooked ever since. I'm trying to think of the popular resturaunt that served it there.
