    Hi Mommy

No offense taken, at all. Tell you what, you pray for a lottery win and let us know if your numbers come up.

Ditto what Sirona said..........my feelings exactly. "a form of self help".

But, if people want to do it, I will join them, and not criticize them (like at a meal). I just don't do it myself. On this thread, I am stating my opinions only. ....and some irritations with "militant" religious types.

I tend to side with the prayer as a self help group It is great as a positive reinforcement and a way to focus on what you really want out of life. A lot of "self" help tapes will stress this type of thinking for attaining your goals.

On the subject of breast lumps...I just wanted to say that I had them myself and they went away not due to prayer but due to me cutting out the caffeine in my diet....diet and attitude can have a lot to do with your health.

I do have to say though that there some things that do happen that can't be explained yet...lol so I guess it doesn't hurt to cover all your bases and pray along with whatever else you are doing to help your situation..can't hurt right?

Why prayer? It's wishful thinking! We just want it to be! Does it work?..No

Mulan, I have the book in front of me. It is "Peace, Love & Healing" by Bernie S. Siegel, M.D. As to why other Dr's haven't picked up on it and spread the word.....I have no idea.

Actually, there have been scientific studies done that show that prayer is effective. The study involved both actual hospital patients and plants. I'll comment on the study done on plants. They had two groups of plants. One group was prayed for, the other wasn't. The group of plants that was prayed for were healthier and grew better than those not prayed for. Likewise, with the actual patients, those who were prayed for actual recovered faster than those who were not prayed for. Also, there have been studies done that show that people of faith, who read thier scriptures and pray are healthier and live longer than those that don't.

I'm not making this up, really! It was in the papers.

The main purpose of prayer is NOT to influence or change God's mind about something, but rather to conform OUR WILL to that of God.

    Just my humble opinion.

Interesting point, but I've also read studies that show the opposite to be true - in that the 2 groups being prayed for showed no obvious difference. So who's right?
