How Can A Religion That Predicts "The End" Every Few Yrs. Maintain Members?

    1. Many groups hate this life. They cannot accept this life, cannot embrace the blessings, nor find a good purpose with the reality of this life as it is. 2. Therefore, they 'need' an "End" believing in the "END" creates in them that they are a 'special select', wiser, with more goodness, how can they possibly give up that feeling of 'special' above all others. 3. It helps them also to justify their belief that all others (who see the scam) who do not accept their belief, will be destroyed soon.

    In the film mentioned by leavingwt above "Strong City End of the World Cult Movie", I found the following comment by the narrator very revealing:

    "I finally understood why so many can't wait for the end of the world and the bodily ascent to heaven that Michael had promised. The last seven years has left many broken. Crushed by what Michael has put them through."

    Like Witnesses, it seems that the members of this cult act like they're the happiest people on earth, but the reality is that they are extremely distressed by their situation and can't wait for the promised end.
