The Watchtower uses a sleight of hand trick to keep their followers distracted from what went wrong. Hey, don't look there ... LOOK OVER HERE!!!

Yes, they control the HISTORY, by re-writing it. If you do not believe this, ask a JW in his or her 20's about the 1975 debacle, and they likely won't even know what you're talking about.

They view re-reading THEIR own writings as a bad thing! They don't want you to review their history because it will only cause confusion.

About reviewing their history. Captives of a Concept says this on page 45 par:sub-heading, "How to Avoid Making This Mistake". Before considering their offer of a free Bible study one should ask for a HISTORY study first.........those who do a history study first don't ask for a Bible study later. Witnesses who do a history study later, after they were baptized, ( Like I did ) realize that they should of done it sooner, before they were baptized.

So Mini, that I believe is the answer to your question. We were all chasing the "CARROT". Some still are. And that is how they are able to keep their members.

    Minimus,

Their doctrine of 'new light' takes care of that one. This gives them an 'out'. Besides the fact that there are babies born every day who never heard about them. So, everything is 'new' to somebody.

Up until recently, they did a good job of hiding their past. Now, thanks to the world wide web, all the information anybody could possibly want about anything is at their fingertips. With this glut of information, I cannot imagine that they will get all that many new followers except for maybe in third world countries. I doubt it would be like in the past when many people came in. Those days may be over.

LWT. Thanks! If you don't have it I suggest you get it. Don Cameron"s "Captives of a Concept" Understanding the Illusionary concept that holds Jehovah's Witnesess Captive.

Go to the member directory up top of page and click on his name and you will get all the info on it that you need.

( short answer ) Shrewed marketing, information is carefully construed and devised to cull and then control the naive and gullible

The constructing of questions and providing the prepared answers that they have established works as a controlling strategy for the organization.

Fear as always is utilized as the catalysis to keep the support from coming in, on a continuing basis .

    Blueblades,

Captives of a Concept was the first Apostate book I paid money for! I still remember being a little fearful as I placed my order online. :-)

Excellent book, singularly focused on one topic, in a very thorough manner. I also enjoyed V's interview with Don Cameron.
