that is good new FHN
It is good. We have a new priest. He is an opera singer. He has performed with Placido Domingo and used to be a tenor with the San Francisco Opera. In the Catholic and Episcopal Churches, we read the same passages from the OT, sing the same responsorial Psalms, read a passage from one of the Gospels and then one from the rest of the NT. The sermons generally last 15-20 minutes. His was based on the parable of the master, the workers and the talents. He spoke about us not burying our talents. He was speaking of the unique talents we have to reach out and help each other, our community and anyone we find who needs help. I can see that he will be very good and dynamic for this tiny congregation. Father Jim already has good ideas to help us overcome our financial needs and problems with an aging building in need of repairs. The church owns 10 acres of woods behind the church. Right now there is a prayer labrynth and The Stations of the Cross in the Pines. But he said that the land could be used for a retirement home for our aging congregants. They could sell the land up front and build a new church in the back rather than doing costly repairs on the existing building. The funds would help the poor in funds congregation. We also found out that some other church has asked to share our building, not an Episcopal Church. It will help them and it will help us. Our little church already participates in all kinds of outreach programs. We also have an African refugee family living in our rectory, because father Jim has his own home and doesn't need it. Our church collects food for the food pantries. They knit hats and mittens for people who need them. They do other things such as help the battered women's shelter and we all raised money doing carwashes, etc. to send all of our kids to camp this summer. Oh, and the service it self was very beautiful. Getting to take communion every week is very moving, too. I have missed some weeks due to work. Julian was serving at the altar today, which is always special. Then they took our picture for the directory. And we grabbed from goodies from coffee hour, signed up for the Thanksgiving Feast scheduled for next Sunday afternoon. Father Jim's sermon about the talents has given me a lot of food for thought and a new perspective from which to pray. And my prayers do get answered. I don't always get I want, but I find I get what I need. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0jyKabLHVc

This thread reminded me that in my youth I went to the group study quite pissed, I had to read the paragraphs, and try not to slur my words,
how sinfull is that? Got away with it though, perhaps I always sound slightly drunk so nobody noticed?

I see you have the proper taste in booze. Which reminds me I have to stock up for Chistmas cheer.

FHN, what the heck is a "prayer labyrinth"? I'm imagining a maze so confusing, once you get in the only way to find the exit is to pray and wait for a miracle.

i had witnesses come to visit me a few weeks ago when I was stoned. And it was my first trip in my life! What were the odds??? It was everything i could do to not sound like an idiot and burst out laughing. Although i am sure i sounded like an idiot!

How difficult it is to extract yourself from the tentacles of the watchtower.
Still in 74, I wonder how many have been to meetings drunk or stoned? I remember hearing reminders from the almighty platform not to drink alcohol before coming to the meetings.
Maybe if they would just let people walk away in peace, there would be no need for such reminders.
