When you're sick do you...

I'm just getting a general consensus of the folks out there. Yesterday my wife was sick with the stomach flu. She was home with the baby and I ended up having to call out of work so that I could take care of the baby because she was sick. Well with any stomach flu, I ended up catching it as well. Meanwhile I still ended up cleaning up the house, taking care of the baby, and now today still having the stomach flu I'm at work for a 12 hour day.

So survey time, when you're sick can you or do you always just keep going even though you're miserable? Or does the whole world need to stop and you need to go to bed when you're sick?

Before I had children: Took refuge in bed until I felt better.

After having children: Go to work, it's more restful than being at home!

Depends on the illness. Bronchitis won't keep me off work till it turns into pnuemonia.

Stomach flu(or anything in the GI tract) requires calling off work, and having someone deliver saltines and Coke.

Coke sipped slowly will cure anything......

    feel better!!!!

I used to force myself to go to work for an hour or two then go home so that I'd get paid for the day (salary, not hourly) and not burn a PTO day. Now we've all got laptops with internet cards where we can connect to our desktop remotely. I can stay home sick but keep up with emails and take care of any emergencies and still get paid for the day.

Other than that, I hibernate when I'm sick. Just let me sleep and I'll re-enter the world when I feel better.

    (1) With some sickness, you won't have any choice. The actual influenza will put you in the bed for at least 48 hours. Many stomach viruses can be so severe, a person may be on their back and/or very weak for 24 hours. Food posioning can last even longer. Migraine headaches can incapacitate folks. Severe muscle spasms/back problems and other discomforts can make going to work almost impossible.

    (2) The health of your co-workers is of utmost importance. If you are coughing/sneezing with a fever, or you have a contagious stomach flu, it would be very inconsiderate to work close to others. If you're in business for yourself, working outdoors or you're a truck driver, you may be able to persever and not affect others. It upsets me when co-workers come to work and they are visible ill with something that is likely contagious.

I stay home. If someone comes to work here with something contagious they get reamed out and sent home. Sometimes you just can't make it in. Last spring I was home with a bad back. It was so bad I couldn't even dress myself for about a week.

Generally, I don't get sick very often in the first place, and when I do it's usually a cold that I attribute to excessively dry air and the irritation it creates. And then I usually work through it because it is more of a nuisance than anything else.

For me, vitamin C works in preventing a good many colds.

I still go on and go to work.

Three years ago when I had to take chemo, I still went to work. It was tough & miserable, but you do whatcha got to do!!! I would take a day off for the chemo treatment and to rest. Usually on a Friday so I could have the weekend to recoup.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Fortunately, I had the stomach flu on Saturday. It was 48 hours of hell.

I tend to head on in if I can. If tis a fever or somthing that has some illness that passed I will stay home

Think of sick time (if it's a benefit) like this...your boss will pay you to stay home so the rest of your shop or office doesnt catch what you have.

Feel better... I got some "bad shrimp" a couple of weeks ago.
