I knew no one wanted us at their door, especially on those days, and I felt terrible for bothering them.
How can you be bothering them when you have a life-saving message?!

"We went to cemeteries and pitched grave-side visitors on Memorial Day"-- oooh, that's terrrible! Didn't anyone punch him out? You guys have no idea how pissed off people are when jw's come during a family dinner, it certainly does not make jw's look godly or pious, just nuts, arrogant and intolerant.

It's disgusting and very disrepectful. The bOrg has no respect for other religions or beliefs (don't have to believe it but be respectful) but expects to be respected - the height of arrogance.
I did.
Once.
Dumb elder that was with me almost got us put in jail when he refused to leave a householder's doorstep and she called the POLICE.
I went to the car.
He stayed on da porch until the POLICE told him he was trespasssing and had to leave.
Even then, he tried to argue with the POLICE that he wasn't trespassing.
When I was a kid we went out in service on holidays. I hated it, especially going out on Thanksgiving and Xmas. At first, I just hated being forced to work in service when the rest of the community was having a day off, but by the time I was in my early teens, I had decided that it was rather obnoxios to go bother people on their days off when they're visiting with family.
By the time I hit 16/17 and had my own car, I was making plans with friends and not being available for service on holidays after that.
As an adult and on my own, I never worked in service on holidays. It amazed me how many people did though. They'd have as many people show up for Xmas day service as they did for Saturday service when the CO was in town. And all I thought was, "great, why don't ya'll make it harder for the rest of us by going round irritating people on their biggest holy day of the year"
i did the graveside memorial day droning one year....
one of my best mates was a reg pioneer and i promised
to help her out since i was one of the few still in town
on this worldly holiday!
i felt like such an ass, intruding on real grief with
a magazine sales pitch! never did it again...
i am suspecting there might be a call at my home tomorrow....
luckily i will be out of town!
I remember it back in the early 70's before the big A.
I went out in field circus once on Thanksgiving--the first year in. The little cult-within-a-cult that my "teacher" started had this rule that it was necessary (the "teacher" humanoid himself wanted it). He wanted me to go out in field circus all day every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. (In fact, he ordered me to spend Thanksgiving Day with him "so I wouldn't celebrate it", without inviting the other unbaptized student(s) he had at the time; partly to count field circus time but mainly to control me himself).
The day itself was quite nasty. Everyone was home cooking turkey, and the group got a craving for turkey. So they went around everywhere and could not find a single place that was open that had turkey. We ended up getting hamburgers that day. Of course, I disliked finding nearly everyone home so much that I did not go out on holidays after that. (Yes, it was a pretty sizable group.)
i feel like undercover twin....just what he said for me....i felt like a freak........oompa
as a MS/pioneer and then later elder/pioneer I often got stuck with holiday group witnessing duty..and yes, i often went home as quick as possible
going to people's houses is bad enough....its like rubbing there nose in dog $hit doing it on the holiday
