How is the WT unique?

The org claims to be the true religion due to being the only ones correct on not believing in hellfire, the trinity, soul, staying out of politics, being the only ones to preach, etc.

None of these above are unique to the WT. Hellfire/trinity are not subscribed to by Christadelphians...most religions preach in ways other than door-knocking- my church has so many missionary outreaches going on my head spins. JWs are the only org that counts their hours preaching. House of Yahweh stays so politically neutral they will not even accept govt aid...so they are (Amish as well) more neutral than JWs.

    My question:

What is the Wt unique on?

They are the only ones wrong on blood

    What elese?

I believe their disfellowshipping and subsequent shunning policies set them apart from any other religious groups, but who needs this dubious distinction?

    agreed Sylvia,

The extreme nature of their shunning sets them apart. Everything that the WT is unique in is dubious.

They possibly hold the record for most false prophecies.

The above link provides a very interesting comparison between the JWs, SDA, Christadelphians and Mormons.....it shows just how non-unique they really are.

My wife was surprised a few weeks ago when she found out the the JWs were not the only group that does not celebrate Christmas.......

Their shunning may be similar to the Amish, but I think the blood doctrine right now, at least the way most JWs think it is, sets them apart (I think most JWs have no idea about the matter of conscience concerning fractions).

Yes, the WT is unique in that they have a senseless doctrine in place springing from a non-understanding of Scripture that has resulted in thousands of needless deaths. I truly beleive the WT knows they are 100% wrong on this but know that a reversal would bring bad publicity and perhaps mucho litigation.

Shunning is not unique to JW's.

Moonies, Mormons and Scientologists all practice it as part of their 'unique' beliefs

All recent American religions with special channel to truth and God...hmmmm....

I really hope this does not bother anyone, but I think there should be no expectations of uniqueness when all so called christian 'churches' (yours included isaac) come from the same mold. It is true some are more 'creative' than others but they all carry the same basic flaws of the original model.

Actually this belief or pretense to be 'unique' and therefore have the 'truth' is pretty uniform across all christian based religions. The expression 'my church' or 'our church' ratifies this.

Think for a second, 3 of the major religions have the same god, the god of Abraham, and yet each one claims to be unique and have the truth; and every subdivision within them claims the same thing...there is no uniqueness, only watered down versions of an original story which I no longer believe in...

    To each their own...

    Kinjiro,

I agree with your statements fully.

They have a bunch of what I call Left-Field Doctrines. I was going to make a list, once, but didn't. The several that I remember are:

Interfaith: don't mix with other faiths, "Babylon-phobia"

No Clergy-Laity Distinction: all are ministers, via preaching; there is to be no pew-sitting drone class. JW's drones are just dumbed down and mind-numbed.

Field-Service [FS]: "Thou shalt go door-door"; we will give you some distorted stretch of the bible for the basis, but get your bun$ out there and parade down a street.

Earthly Hope: on a Paradise Earth; does anybody else do this one, throwing in everlasting life?

I mentioned this lack of being unique earlier in the gigantic thread responding to Reniia. I expressed my doubts that JW FS was what the scriptures had in mind.

Following that, if the WTS does "go mainstream", and I discount the FS, what point are they as a religion?

And since they treat their people worse than dirt, being a modern day incarnation of the Puritans [improved, modernized uniform included] with a bit of Pharisee thrown in, what possibly could be their appeal?

Right now, after all the revelations, the only thing I think they stand out for is not going to war and joining the military.
