Jehovah's Witnesses Are A Nosy Bunch, Aren't They?

Everyone needs to know what you're doing, who you associate with, what movies and TV you see, whether you plan on extended schooling, what you do on weekends, etc.

They want you to account to them. If they believe you're acting not quite in accord with their standards, they'll inquire about your business.

The elders believe they are literally, God's gift to everyone else. They expect total openess in every matter including your love life, your goals and your secrets.

Like I said, Witnesses are so (too) nosy.

And why not? They are warned that bad associations spoil useful habits. And it is drilled into their heads repeatedly that bad associations aren't just worldly people, they sit all around you at the Kingdom Hall.

And why not? The governing body makes sure witnesses know, constantly, that only a few will make it. The narrow road is not necessarily filled with those you see around you.

They tell stories of how you will look around after Armegeddon and not find even witnesses you thought were strictly faithful.

And so the average JW is terrified that even his own brothers and sisters will rub off on him, causing him to lose his life.

The Governing Body has created an atmosphere of susicion in their so called spiritual paradise.

And why not? The JW's are groomed to be paranoid. It's part of the systematic brain washing.

I've seen where some elders and other JWs were always sticking their nose into other's affairs. But at the same time, I knew a lot of dubs that lived pretty quiet and didn't bother anyone and preferred it when no one bothered them.

I think it comes down to the local congregation. Having spent some time in different ones, I noticed that in halls with more established members that had been around a long time and they had become fairly communal in everything they did, they were pretty damn nosy. But in other halls where people were constantly moving in and moving out, there was some social contact but the degree of familiarity that was had in the other hall wasn't present.

I have some family in a remote congregation that hasn't had a baptism in years. The only new blood are people that move in and being in a depressed area, that's rare. The Society sent in a special pioneer couple just to keep the elder body full and to try to light a fire under their ass to spend more time in service. The weird thing about this congregation is that no one makes a move without the entire congregation knowing about it. Had spaghetti for dinner? Everyone knows. Watched TV for an hour and a half last night? Everyone knows. Took the cat to the vet? Everyone knows. Got diarrehea? Everyone knows. It's surreal how these people all know each other's personal life so much. No one has any real privacy. You can only imagine how involved the elders are into every little aspect of these people's lives...

    LOL!

Reminds me when I'm not at the meetings for a week and it never fails that once I walk into the KH:

Hey, where have you been?!! WE MISSED YOU!!!

When I'm there ... noone cares. When I'm not ... HEY, IF WE GOTTA COME TO EVERY MEETING ... SO SHOULD YOU!!!

What do JWs (and particularly elders!) do when they visit you in your home? They go right over to your bookcase to see what books you are reading!

And I don't think it is because they are looking for new things to read either!
