What do you think of Serial killers who find God and repentence?

Timely thread. This week's Craptower study deals with this very thing:

    14. Regarding help received through prayer, consider the example of three prison inmates who came to a knowledge of Bible truth while incarcerated and became unbaptized publishers. Because of a violent incident, a number of privileges were taken away from all the prisoners in the facility. That sparked a protest. The prisoners decided that after breakfast the next morning, as an act of defiance, they would refuse to return their plates. The three unbaptized publishers were now in a dilemma. If they joined in the revolt, they would be violating Jehovah's counsel found at Romans 13:1. If they did not join in, they could expect reprisals from angry inmates. 15. Unable to communicate with one another, the three men prayed for wisdom. The following morning, all three found that they had decided on exactly the same solution-they simply would decline breakfast. When the guards later came to collect the plates, the three men had none to return. How glad they were that the "Hearer of prayer" was near!-Ps. 65:2

For myself, I think the majority of these serial killers are looking for someone----anyone----to absolve them of their horrific crimes. Since the Penal System clearly won't let them go free, they turn to religion. Think about it: If you're facing life in prison with no chance of ever getting out, you've nowhere to run and are forced to face the music you've composed. With absolutely nothing to lose and being told that to be forgiven for their horrific crimes, they simply have to accept Ja-E-sus! as their Savior, it is not surprising that alot of them suddenly become Born Again Christians. It fulfills a number of things: They view it as an absolution for what they've done and is their Get Out of Jail Free card. What could be easier?

While it is ultimately God who is the judge of what is truly in their hearts, I think the majority of these people are adapt at conning people and are using the last trick available to them while they still can: religion.

Social activities are extremely limited, in jail. Religious activity provides them some entertainment, so many join religions. Some join political parties. I heard of a con that joined the liberal party. They would pick him up for stuff. It lifts them out of the daily prison drudgery for a bit.

When I was growing up my dad studied with several inmates at Point of the Mountain prison in Utah. One progressed to baptism. My dad, along with others, testified at his parole hearing as to his "new personality". He was a huge part of our lives as small kids. You know, taken under my dad's wing and all. Then one day his Aid book and other publications were on our front step. He had attempted to rape a young sister and was sent back to prison.

That was a rapist, not a serial killer.

Religions think they have THE answers, cures, solutions to all ills, if only people submit and accept their flavor of gospel. Religions have set themselves into a position where they basically have to accept anyone, no matter how lacking they may be in any area. Sometimes, it works, sometimes, it doesn't. I don't think that it should stop the 'recycling' of serial killers, though.

And all it took was for them to kill a couple of people to figure out it wasn't such a good idea after all.

I remember reading a news article about a man being tried for murder some years ago. His best friend said of him: (paraphrasing) "People are saying he's a monster, but he's really a great guy. The only things that makes him different from everyone else is he killed some people".

Son of Sam probably really did hear a dog tell him to kill those people, so it's not unlikely that he now hears Jesus Christ telling him to be a good lad.

I certainly wouldn't want to be the person who releases a prisoner because of his new found faith in prison.

I think they are like all other Christians and prisoners.

God, Allah and Jesus live in the Jail. When they are in jail they deal with God. They even read his word because they have a lot of time.

When they are on the streets some of them deal with him on the hollidays. Some of the Old ones once a week on Sundays.

If there was a God there wouldn't be serial killers.

But most people who believe in God haven't figured that out.

I never saw Buddah in Jail.
