That trimline deal was a scam. My brother got into it and was cheated out of tons of money. They all worked as "independent" contractors so the parent company didn't have to pay taxes. They supplied the materials, the truck and paid the workers but they were independent contractors. That all blew up in their face as they had massive tax obligations at the end of the year. My brother told them to shove it. W.Once

I remember TrimLine...I knew a few brothers who did that. One of em did quite well while others went bust after a year or two.
And there was Mighty Auto Parts. I don't remember if the main company was owned by JWs but I remember that a local racing team wanted Mighty to sponser their car and the local brother in charge of the local distributership checked with his bosses who told him no because the Society warned against the dangers of getting involved in "dangerous" sports or activities and racing was one of them.

I know there were a few but its interesting that they seem to start and flourish with this religion .

One of my brothers worked for Trimline in Cincinnati when he was 19. (They did the body decor for the rollercoasters at Kings Island Amusement Park as well as working for car dealerships.) His good JW boss provided him alcohol to drink on the job and then let him borrow his car to drive home one night. He crashed the car on his way home, almost died, and was just conscious enough to refuse a blood transfusion. He did survive but it was a tense time.
