I am a great admirer of Arandhati Roy. I have read her one and only novel, the God of Small Things, and found it an tremedous work of fiction.
I am slightly worried by her extremist views. She seems to blame all of the current problems in the world on the greed of the USA!
I used to live a few blocks away from her when I lived in New Delhi and although she rightly draws attention to the fact that the gap between rich and poor is widening, we lived in the most affluent and well off part of Delhi - so I am not sure where the title 'We the poor' comes from. I was a witness at the time and found it very hard to justify my wealth compared with the average brothers and sisters in the congregation. I fear that justice for the poor and equality are just a dream,

I think she is very practical ande enlightening. I like what she says about not leting any political party to use her for endorsements. She flatly refuses to recomend who to vote for.

21st Century Market Capitalism American Style?
I watched the first video and I can agree with much of what she says.
I have been advocating Isolationism for the US, since I entered the work force back in 72.
I have lost 3 jobs to globalization.
And because I was a witness, I never should have had a job, I should have had a career, but you need and education for a career.
Anyways. As I see it the multinational corporations have taken over the US government and use the US military to enforce globalism on the world. Which helps destroy the US economy and is why we are where we are today along with having an idiot in the white house for the past 8 years.
But to be fair to the idiot, Clinton signed Nafta into law, So we are getting tag teamed from both sides.
Clinton was more palatable to my taste. I prefer pot heads to coke heads they are more mellow.
Talking about Globalism is kind of like talking about getting the horse back into the barn when the barndoor has been open for 30 years and the horse is nowhere around.
Globalism seems to be the road we are on until the next cataclysm, maybe 2012?
I have never heard anything good about communism.
But I havent heard much good about capitalism either, especially as it has been playing out in the last 20 years.
So I guess were screwed.
Seems like an opening for a religious cult to see a need a fill it.
Oh, thats already been done, thats why I am here on this board.
I got no answers, this is just my late night ice house influenced comment.
