Instead of "Christmas day" they should have "Witness Day" and give gifts and decorate a clothes horse with glitter....have some drinks give some gifts!
I have known of jws that wait six months and then have a day for exchanging gifts and a special meal with jw relatives and friends..........

I think it is to isolate the dubs from society and even close family. It's a way to make them different and a test to prove they're faithful. I remember an elder out in service who stated he wanted to destroy all of the outside Christmas decorations because he couldn't stand to look at them. Crazy? Then some in the cargroup decided that the snowmen decorations should be spared because they weren't really christmas decorations. Bizarre?
Later, I found out this particular elder had a long term habit of viewing porn. I guess those images didn't disturb him so much? He's still an elder. Things that make you go huh?

Personally I wasn't that into x-mas before the WTS came into my life.
For me $$$ was a part of my reasonign to others but so too are the lies and half truths that the celebraters of this holiday put out
I'm still waiting for the kiddie x-mas play that depicts the slaughter of the innocents. Given the violent video games kids these days play I'm sure they'd all jump at the chance to re-enact such a bloody affair
The fact is that my parents lied to me. There is no such thing as Santa Claus. So they can lie to me for years about something like that but if I take a cookie and lie about it I get punished and told that lying is bad, not to do it...and then parents wonder where their children learn to lie...such utter hipocracy
Now that I am out I refuse to go back to celebrating x-mas. I left the JW because I couldn't live that lie and I won't celebrate x-mas because I refuse to live that lie.
