Mike's Corner: ex-JW Community Not An Activist Community?
    by Mike Pence

10 days after issuing a Call to Action, only one person has stepped forward to donate $10 toward a professional press release exposing the Watchtower UN Scandal to the US media as a whole. What does this mean?

For me, it has meant a lot of soul searching and contemplation. I am not bashing the community here, just making some observations about the nature of this community that are news to me. Like anything else, this is a reason to learn and say, "What is this for?"

The ex-JW community is a very social, and very emotionally supportive community. But, when this or other calls to action are taken, few respond. Do ex-JW's not believe that united action by them could make a bigger difference, could shine a brighter llight on the abuses of power of our abusive Mother? Is the ex-JW community primarily about the egos of a few web savvy apostates like myself, and otherwise just a big social club?

What would it take to get some serious activism going on here? Would anything make that happen? Apparently, the CCJW partnering with Satan's UN, arguably the biggest scandal in their history, was not enough to get the ex-JW community to unite and take some action, not just here, but in any way.

Is ex-JW united action possible? Is it not desirable?

    Hi Mike,

I understand where your mind is on this "issue"; yes I see it as an "issue" myself. Yet, I have learned that many DO and ARE active in "exposing" the criminal corruption of this book publishing company. It just isn't seen here.

Imploding this ROT will take strategic placements of the "dynamite". Are you catching my drift? I used to think the way you are now and today I understand that strategic "moves" are the only way for a successful "implosion". Call me dramatic...it doesn't matter to me. I am very effective in what I do here on the internet and in my own community regarding making the public aware of this organization and it's crimes and deceptions.

Kudos to you sir. You are appreciated and your efforts are too. See ya in chat.

I agree wholeheartedly Mike. If I post crap I get replies, if I post anything of any real meaning, in provision of networking platforms to enable others, I get little or no response.

If I had a spare few dollar I would happily give it to you, but most of the work I do is voluntary, therefore none paid.

I agree that the community here is very lax and completely disorganised. Fair enough, it works to a degree, but I'm starting to think about what the hell I'm doing trying to design platforms for ex witnesses for which one can get substantial funding, when all you get in reply constantly is people ripping the piss or coming out with smartass one liners.

Theres got to be more to life than assisting these wasters of space I'm starting to think to myself.

I hate it when people are easily offended. Really sticks in my craw. But I'm about to say something that probably sounds like I'm being easily offended.

I take issue with the fact that you are making a very broad sweeping statement like...

Theres got to be more to life than assisting these wasters of space I'm starting to think to myself.
I don't consider myself a waster of space because I post on the more light-hearted threads. In fact, posting on those trivial threads suits my goal just fine. My goal is to heal myself first and then perhaps help others see the corruption. But I cannot help others without first helping myself. But do you consider me a space waster because I'm don't have the same purpose here as you do? Many people here are actively doing things to expose the criminal corruption of the WTS. There are hundreds of letters written, local in-person support groups formed and attended to, research done. Just because those things aren't shared on the board, doesn't mean it's not getting done.

I guess I'd like you to clarify what your expectations of this board are and how you plan on using it to attain your goals? I'm confused as to the point of your post. Are you venting? Are you pointing fingers? Are you wanting the goal of this board to change? What are you looking for?

I believe in helping people on a personal level or individual basis.

    Thats where my interest lies.

I have no interest in getting involved with public picketing, Defeat the Watchtower fundraisers or in publicizing Watchtower "scandals".

There are others who have that interest.

I think you both are frustrated that your appeals haven't gotten more attention. Well, the burden is on the appealer not those who are appealed to. Either you are drumming to the wrong audience or you are drumming the wrong tune.

I agree with Joel. I talk a lot to people one to one, I've participated in seminars at my church. At the invitation of a friend I spoke to a university group.

I think the tower is going to die the death of a thousand cuts. Nothing is going to push it over, but the r&f are showing signs of terminal disinterest. Hours are down, membership (at least in this country) is stagnant, which means that they are leaving as fast as they are coming in.

Eventually they will end up where the Christian Scientists are, a small insignificant and weird little sect.

I personally would like to see some sort of organized effort against the WT. In order to get something like this off the ground, it would require and extremely well thought out arrangement and would have to produce results indicating that it is necessary and effective.

Further, I suspect that until confidence in such an arrangement is earned, one cannot expect funds to materialize, therefore some people will have to volunteer time and resources, at least in the beginning.

If there was some sort of charitable organization that would represent the issues of former Witnesses effectively, while at the same time respecting their diversity, I would have no problem giving money to support such an arrangement.

I do think many people worked very hard on this whole UN incident. Many spent much time and money on the issue. While this issue is important to Witnesses, I think you over-estimate it's importance and interest to the general population and the media.

As one of the newer "wasters of space" I can honestly say that a couple of years ago I would have jumped on your bandwagon. Now, the anger is gone replaced by dissapointment in myself that I was dumb enough to get involved.

I enjoy lighthearted threads (or crap) as I get to associate with like minded people here.
