Since the CBS in private homes has been cancelled, the WTS is now strongly encouraging "family study nights".
But wait a minute...there's no printed schedule in the KM! "What are we supposed to study?"
Sure, a lot of people will pick some JW study book or something from the latest magazines, but I'm willing to bet a pretty fair number will actually start to study the Bible, rather than studying books or magazines about the Bible.
And what happens if people begin to read the Bible without the JW filter set to "maximum obscuration"? As the old WT article from the early 80's said, "they quickly revert back to Christendon's teachings!"
And then what if....families start getting bored with just their own family members participating?
"What can we do to liven things up a bit? I know! Let's invite the Snerd family over to share the study with us!"
So now you might get 2 or 3 families together, perhaps reading the Bible in context & reaching conclusions that are not quite "orthodox"...
I would bet that it will take COs 1 or 2 visits to figure out that something is amiss. Then, look for "study" WT articles and KM articles strongly condemning "independent" (i.e., without the aid of WT literature) Bible study, and even more strongly condemning multiple families coming together for "family study night". I would expect those articles to begin around the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.
Anyone care to take that bet?
