How the "family study night" could backfire on the WTS

Since the CBS in private homes has been cancelled, the WTS is now strongly encouraging "family study nights".

But wait a minute...there's no printed schedule in the KM! "What are we supposed to study?"

Sure, a lot of people will pick some JW study book or something from the latest magazines, but I'm willing to bet a pretty fair number will actually start to study the Bible, rather than studying books or magazines about the Bible.

And what happens if people begin to read the Bible without the JW filter set to "maximum obscuration"? As the old WT article from the early 80's said, "they quickly revert back to Christendon's teachings!"

And then what if....families start getting bored with just their own family members participating?

"What can we do to liven things up a bit? I know! Let's invite the Snerd family over to share the study with us!"

So now you might get 2 or 3 families together, perhaps reading the Bible in context & reaching conclusions that are not quite "orthodox"...

I would bet that it will take COs 1 or 2 visits to figure out that something is amiss. Then, look for "study" WT articles and KM articles strongly condemning "independent" (i.e., without the aid of WT literature) Bible study, and even more strongly condemning multiple families coming together for "family study night". I would expect those articles to begin around the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.

Anyone care to take that bet?

No way. There is a greater chance of the family studying the latest Playboy mag.

How about studying Crisis of Conscience, or, my favorite, The Gentile Times Reconsidered, during the Family Bible Study night?

Seriously, does The Watcthtower specifically state that one of their books has to be used for the Family Bible study?

cultic mind control works best in higher frequency....the doasge is not as important as the frequency. I wonder how this reduced frequency will affect the degree of control.

Well, wouldn't it be proper as a family to re-read the REVELATION-GRAND CLIMAX BOOK? As many times as necessary-week after week until it begins to make sense...........

I doubt any serious or careful Bible studying will be happening.

The WT has so convincingly implanted the thought that no one can understand the Bible without its "aids" that most JW's are scared witless when it comes to actual Bible reading!

I know because I was like that at one time.

I Just posted something similar to this on JWS...P.ondering the question of having one less meeting if it would give others more time to think individually

    Mind Control/Time Control

Mind control cults keep their members so busy with meetings and activities that they become too busy and too tired to think about their involvement.

Time control also helps the cult keep their members immersed in the manufactured cult environment.

And time control helps keep cult members away from friends and family.
