Josie, my in-laws live kinda close to you and I was praying the weather would hold so that we wouldn't have to drive over there on Christmas Eve (today) but, alas, it has warmed up.
However, there has been a Christmas miracle~my m-i-l isn't cooking! Yay! She gave me food poisoning at Thanksgiving. I'm convinced she's trying to kill me.
The nice thing about being a SAHM is that you don't HAVE to go out when the roads are bad. But I was worried about my DH coming home from work last night.

Heehee, I totally understand. If my hubby and his mother were talking we would be running to Ohio but alas for not. I'm really not in the mood to sit locked up in the middle of the hood anyway.

Well we got another 6 or 7 inches around here last night. Again. This is the third snow storm in less than a week for crissakes ........it's that heavy wet snow too so it took forever to clear the car and driveway.........fortunately the roads were pretty good as it's about 36 F right now and it's starting to melt..........God I hate winter.....

just normal life up here in Canada.
I almost got stuck in the middle of a main road last week cause the snow was so deep. Thats just the way it gets here.
Black ice? all the time. Just look at the back of transport trucks when they drive by. If there is water-spray then there is no black ice - BUT, if the road LOOKS wet but there is no water-spray then congratulations - you are on black ice.
Just remember to steer into the direction you are sliding if you your tires let go, and DONT BRAKE - you lose any ability to steer when you brake.

From a Mississippi resident:
That sounds bad. I wouldn't have a CLUE what to do!
As a former resident of Alabama, let me tell you how to do it:
Stay in a low gear, go slow, do not brake if you do not have to, and turn into the spin if you start wiping out. Oh, and watchout for the a-holes who think they are immortal.

Oh, and watchout for the a-holes who think they are immortal.
They tend to be driving big @$$ hummers.
