I lived in van for about 6 months, back in the 60's.

Were you in the van down by the river?

Those were exciting times. Hippies, gastown, party ...

Looks and sounds good. May well give the place a visit, especially with free lodgings.

We are in Calgary (Alberta) but would like to visit Vancouver some time, people I work with say it's worth a visit.

I hope the exchange rate improves for you before you visit ... it was down to $1.79 per £1 earlier today (I remember getting over $2.5 one year on holiday!)

Even so, Canada isn't as expensive to live as the UK I don't think (for day-to day stuff like eating out and filling the car)

Satanus...I hear the chinese are also buying up Panama..what's up?

I too would love to move...but alas...my brother is moving to Reno and he wants me to go there to live also..just don't know if I'm ready to leave all my kiddies behind..

ps...I only played around scuba diving but I loved it. It would have been nice ot take some lessons. We had the air tanks but we also tried something like a big innertube that floated on the water and it had a air compressor on it and hoses that forced you the air..I liked it better than the scuba tanks until it ran out of gas...No air!..You were limited how far you could go..I wonder if they still make them...they were a few hundred dollars back in the 70's.

The West Coast is beautiful. I hope you can get to Seattle and Victoria too. The most beautiful place I have ever seen is in the mountains when you are going over highway 20(Burlington, about an hour south of the border) to Winthrop, which is a tourist town. You have to go through a some little towns first, but you will come upon a place that you KNOW God (if he did it!) is still smug about-millions of years after he made it:) When your cell/radio reception gets nasty and you are being careful driving because of the curves, you know you are getting close. Its a good, safe paved road, so no worries there. Stunning.

Vancouver is nice too-try traveling a little north on that coast. I hear some of it is still pretty wild.

http://www.cascadeloop.com/north_cascades_highway.html Hwy. 20 is the North Cascades Highway. You really don't want to miss it. It gets spectacular when you get past the towns, but even before that, it is a great drive.
