OK, today is really great topic wise. Unfortunately this walk down memory lane is getting annoying to me. That whole "grieving the spirit" crapola really pisses me off. I remember a CO getting counseled by some local brothers because he was suffering from migraines, and the doctors were unable to help him. They asked if he wanted to confess a secret sin.
$$ aid to needy JW's....How much have you ever seen???

choosing life
Charitable acts were almost exclusively done on an individual basis. The borg could not divert any time or energy from the preacing work, or so they said. It always seemed so cold to me.
We did have some live with us when they lost their homes and gave groceries, etc. to those out of work. Looking back though, we could have done much more if we weren't running in circles looking for recruits.
I did see the congo organize some help with meals for an elderly lady once, but it fell on the individuals to accomplish it. I have never seen congregation donations used to help anyone.
I had a sweet single mother bring me a few meals when I had surgery once. It was much appreciated.

heh heh. Maybe my porn collection was "grieving the spirit". The injury actually turned out to be a good thing. It resulted in a lawsuit which paid off all my debts, bought me my first computer, bought a new livingroom set and bedroom set. It also allowed me to take 2 years off work to go back to school and retrain for a new career. Maybe I should "grieve the spirit" more often.

its funny, that besides bringing people to the meetings, my hall never did it.
there was one instance where someone lost a loved one in 9/11, and this jw was asking all for donations.... this was stopped by the elders.
but my body of elders did sponsor somebody from a foreign country bethel to do the memorial talk.... his trip was paid (family too), remeber writing the check that a brother had to cash so he could hand over the cash$$$$ to this bro!

Snoozy
Well when I was a lot younger and had only been a JW for a year or two I needed an operation...(female problems) we were going to have to face the blood issue. The witnesses got together and raised the money for hubby's and mine airfare to Texas. The JW surgeon there was going to operate with no blood..we did have life insurance so that wasn't a problem.
They came over with the tickets one night and later that night I had terrible stomach pains and ended up going in the local hospital for the operation..As it turned out I did need blood but they didn't give me any. Lots of Ringers though..one in each hand thanks to the anesthesiologist...he noticed how low I was and stuck them in right away..it seemed my Dr (recommended by the JW's because he wouldn't force blood) couldn't be bothered...I think he would have let me bleed to death. I later heard someone call him Dr Butcher when I mentioned his name.
I could go on but back to the contribution part...I guess they were able to turn the tickets back in I don't know what happened to them. But they did pull together several times like that for the congregation.
One thing I did want to comment on was the money we contributed towards the missionaries...it seemed like there wasn't very many of them because we would only see a report once in a while about them. Usually in a magazine.
Snoozy...
