When is the message of destruction to begin? Who is the King of the North?

This relates to my 1981 Awake! thread in the Experiences section to a degree. Thinking about those golden oldie WT's and Awake! articles from the 1980's got me thinking. (oh-no!)

Something struck me as I was thinking about all of the stuff I was taught growing up in the 80's. My parents and I were always taught that somehow the King of the North would finally be revealed, and that also the preaching work would be fullfilled, and that we'd then have another message to spread - not of warning - but of impending destruction by Jehovah our God!! Everyone kind of looked forward to spreading this one-last message, sort of an in-your-face "We told you so!" type message. I have not heard anything about this end-time type of message in years, probably since the late 80's, early 90's.

Was it just local lunacy, or does anyone else remember this being taught? The only thing that even came close was that tract about 2 years ago that slammed other religions for their pedophiles, etc.....and I remember everyone talking about how the clergy and Christendom would be angered by our tract and that it might even turn them against the Organization, and hence jump-start the Great Tribulation. As usual though, no one in the "World" gave a damn, it wasn't even a hiccup. They are so full of themselves; they think the whole world is someone focused on them and their every move, tract campaign, etc. Anyway, that is the only thing that even came close to what I was taught.

Final message of destruction; anyone remember being told we'd do it at the end? King of the North - When? Who? Of course I remember it being USSR / Communists, but what was it in the 90's? How about today?

Great question. The "Your Will Be Done On Earth" book went into this in such detail in the early 60's I think they really went out on a limb. I would like to know what the current "light" is myself.

Officially, the WTS has said they do not know any more who has taken the place of the Soviet Union as the king of the north (1999) and has not speculated to date officially.

Thanks, B. It would be refreshing if they used the words "we speculate...." But of course when they print new light it is the Truth. You can take it to the bank. Right.

Usually the WTS says "evidently" or "probably" when they "speculate." There was a talk by Ciro Aucilino in 2001 which is on www.freeminds.org where he hinted that the KOTN might be Islam. I'd post it here but I'm blocked at work.

King of the North: Some speculate that it may be radical Islam (A while ago, someone posted a talk from Bethel heavy/UN lackey Ciro Aulicino where he discussed this). It wouldn't surprise me if there is some speculation about China filling this role. As a side note, isn't it strange that China, which is the most populous country in the world, is completely ignored by JW end-times theology? If China continues its ascent in the coming decades, expect this to change.

Message of Destruction: This was discussed at assemblies, etc., in the 1980s. As I recall, the prophetic tie-in had something to do with hailstones. The WT taught that the current message (good news of the kingdom) was like soft rain, but at some point it would become hard like hailstones. I for one did not look forward to going door-to-door telling people they were doomed.

**Edit: the talk that Blondie mentions above can be found here: http://www.randytv.com/whatfutureholds.htm **

I remember this loud and clear and kept thinking about it as I posted in the "time left is reduced" thread. I think its another paradox for the WT. They have to declare the preaching work over, or at least the ingathering portion of it to begin this "warning" message. That begins a countdown to the "great tribulation" they cannot bear to mess up. Since they are SO good at screwing up dates, chronology, and countdowns they are kind of stuck. We will be watching them and will hold their feet to the fire. So their warning message may never materialize. Another example of JWs being duped and totally assinine theology IMHO.

I think the " king of the north " flew south for the winter. No such animal exists in modern time

Yea, the collapse of the Soviet Union was a real problem for WTS chronology, eh!

It made, and continues to make, them look like idiots. They haven't been stupid enough to give the prophecy another new meaning.

And I also remember the info about the message getting harder just before the end.

The WTS has just made such a mess of all of this.

Several times during the book study I would comment on the big colored box on pg 9 chapter 2 of the revelation book. 'it is not claimed that the explanations in this publication are infallible. Like Joseph of old, we say: 'Do not interpretations belong to God?' At the same time, however, we firmly believe that the explanations set forth herein harmonize with the Bible in in its entirety, showing how remarkable divine prophecy has been fulfilled in the world events of our catastrophic times. I always like the confused look on everybodys face. These type of warnings were in other books as well but they are always just overlooked.

There was another paragraph, which I can't find right now, that said that we should not be speculating on gods word or something close to that. As I told me wife, they tell us that then they just speculate the crap out of it in the rest of the book. This is typical of the society. They can say two opposing ideas at the same time and call it the truth.

That is the same thing they do with the king of the north. They don't have and never will have a clue who it is. They just guess like the rest of the forecasters in the world do. They probable figure that if they guess long enough they might get it right.
