Sterling, BV, Fransican, Freemark Abby, Mondovi, Sabastiani, Kenwood. Just a few of the ones I have been to and liked in the Napa Sonoma regions. Last year I went through Passa Robles and went to Robert Hall, Firestone and one other one in that area. I really like Nevada City Winery between Sacramento and Reno in California. California has a lot of really good wineries. As for which reds I like I like them all.

Cabernet suavignon is a great red wine. In my search for the darkest, redest, grapiest wine, i settled on porto late bottled vintage. Not exactly a standard wine, but, if you like to taste the sweet grape, it's great.

I love a good merlot or cabernet savignon, brand doesn't matter to me yet....

There are a couple of reasonably priced red wines you can buy at Costco right now.

We love Edmeades Zinfandel 2006 - I believe the price is 12.99.

Also at Costco, a red table wine we tried at a party and really liked. Called Menage a Trois (California Red Wine) and the price is $6.99. Since it is so inexpensive, we use it as our every day dinner wine.

We have a favorite cab from a boutique winery not to far from where we live. It is called Albertina and it is a Cabernet Sauvignon. Quite tasty and runs about $25, but you can probably only order it from the website.

Have to say that I am partial to Zinfandels. I love the big, juicy flavor that is generally associated with zins.

Good luck on your wine search.

I once read an article in some wine magazine, where a connoisseur said something like Cabernet is what wine drinkers graduate to, once your palate has been educated it's Cabernet. I find you can get a good Merlot in the lower priced wines, but need to spend a bit more to get a good Cab. It really is the best though.

Sauvignon Blanc is my favorite white. It's nice and crisp, and goes fantastic with goat cheese!

At least we agree on something! That is my favorite white wine grape also. I like it much better than Chardonnay. It is more refreshing, especially in my climate. And yes, it goes great with goat cheese.

I love Cabernet, it is suppose to be best for you. Gets rid of bad cholesterol and has a ton of antioxidants that come from the skins of the grape.

My favorites are Woodbridge Cabernet by Robert Mondavi and Black Swan Cabernet from Australia.

Mary saw your post! Just stocked up today. 1.5 liters for 8.99 plus if you buy 4 bottles another $5.00 off. I think you better make a trip here and fill the trunk of your car!

A good robust red is a wonderful thing to find. I like several varieties, and am partial to old vines zinfandel. 2008 brought me an appreciation for pinotage.
