I never cared for being called brother.
I never really liked anything about being a witness.
I think subconciously, I knew it was a curse from about 3 years old.
No Christmass, no birthdays. No fun. No TV on meeting nights.

I hated it, I would have much preferred if they at least called me Mrs. so-and-so. But what REALLY irked me was when an elder on the platform would call on his wife to answer and would call her Sister so-and-so. Just struck me as icky. I'm sorry but there is no way I can think of my spouse as brother.
brother/sister is an inside the KH/"theocratic" thing. outside 'theocratic' activity its a different story. Inside you call people by a title (bro/sis) outside that itsa first name basis. absurd? yes. hate it? no its just part of the rules of the club.
I never liked it because it sounded so hypocritical, there was no genuine spirit of brotherhood between the JWs. It implied that the level of fraternity was very high whereas the opposite was the case.
used to make me cringe. Mr's and Mrs so and so would have sufficed on the respect front.
I prefer Captain Awesome. But people rarely call me that, so Mr. Fantastic will sufice.
Great thread ‘brother’ flipper…
Yeah, really used to hate this. Also hated the fact that some parents used to get their children to call adults ‘uncle’ and ‘auntie’, being that they thought that would teach the children respect. Just ends up as much a pretence as ‘brother’ and ‘sister’…. What’s wrong with names anyway..

LOL, hey Captain Awesome.............happy now?
When I first started going it was cool...like a ACCEPTANCE into a GROUP thing :) Wow...Im a SISTER now! Kinda thing. But yeah it got annoying as the years went buy. You can say damn near ANYTHING about another person if you say "Brother Lisp, what a WONDERFUL encouraging and uplifting talk you gave today!" "Oh poor Sister Blahblah, she just cant get that extra 100 pounds off can she, bless her heart."
And you always can smile when you say Brother or Sister...no matter how disingenuous it is.
In the beginning being called a "bruddah" or "sistah" can make you feel special in a sense but I had a very difficult time trying to use it towards others. Even tho this title can make one feel elite in a way it was just plain weird. I wanted to them to use my name especially when you are out at a store, restaurant, etc... It was embarrassing for one to use that term in public so I never did. I even hated it worst when they would use this term to newbies that were'nt even baptised. It was just a devised way to get them more indoctrinated into the cult, to make that individual feel special.
