#2 here also, but I have an unfair advantage, DJing, that is...LOL. I do enjoy many kinds of music, even a bit of classical, although I own precious little of it. Since reviving the DJ thing, I have opened up to stuff I would never have imagined. Its a wonderful feeling.

Music!!..my favourite subject ,or one of them.

i always struggled with the W T polemics against rock music. We once had to hastily arrange a visit to a distant aunt when I needed an excuse not to conduct a watchtower study raging against heavy metal..When I had had it with eldership, the one thing the C.O.finally accepted was when I told him I actually liked heavy metal. My feet then did not touch the ground ,I was off the body so quick

Your original Q. Yes, it is wonderful short term influence on your mood, lift you relax you rejuvinate ,invigorate..If you have ever spent a Saturday night down the front at a good gig ,with your ear next to a big amp. you'll know what I mean!
But long term befaviour influence? No , thats just a myth put about by those who don't like it, and picked by doom merchants like the WT.

Thats my opinion for what its worth - "Hail, Hail Rock and Roll!!

BoozeRunner: You're a dj? You lucky... person you! I always wanted to be one... what kinda music do you play? Techno? Trance? Polka?

Is there anyone who's a #1? Or better yet, #3?

p.s. Poor, poor Ozzie... so many of our problems are blamed upon this poor man.

    Bluesbrother:

What's so wrong with rock music? Elvis was accused in his time of being an immoral bastard with bad music. Nowadays, we do the same thing with modern rock. I'm not a big fan of heavy metal, but some songs do capture my attention. What's so wrong with that?

And big amps ARE an essential part of good music.

*i'm not accusing you, by the way...!*

Frank Zappa once opined that he could rule the world with music. Although that's exaggeration, it's nonetheless true that music can stimulate emotion and in some cases even alter consciousness: Gregorian chant, Sousa marches...and film scoring is the art of manipulating the mind through music to enhance the 'movie experience'. Good old gospel music will lift you up and move your body if you got any soul at all. Lots of organizations use music to stimulate the mind/soul.

Music is perhaps one of the only unexplained miracles. It can help clarify your thinking (Mozart does...) and help sick people heal faster. Even birds are moved by music: my canary sings along with Pink Floyd; he seems to love great guitar, or perhaps he views it as some amazing rival male and is trying to outperform... but it sounds to me like 'singing along' and I fondly accept that notion .

When Papa Dark got his Doctor of Divinity from the Universal Life Church, he was also certified Missionary of Music. (Stoners will appreciate that the date of his ordination was 4/20/00 ) He takes the job seriously, too. He has a whole drive devoted to his mp3s, and he can find damn near any obscure tune you might want. He recently rose to a challenge of mine and found me a recording of "Gypsy Rose and I Don't Give a Curse" as performed live by the Kingston Trio. So far I haven't been able to stump him. The variety of stuff available to me these days is awesome. I enjoy it all voraciously, all genres, all eras.

Last nite we listened to 'Sweet Dreams (are made of this)' as done by 3 different artists: Eurythmics, Marilyn Manson, and Rockapella. It's ALL good!

    Oh yes!

Music does influence one's mood profoundly. If you have ever watched The last night of the proms you will know all about being stirred up by Land of hope and glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

Now just so you Yanks don't get all pouty here, I have to tell you that the most moving musical experience I ever witnessed was when the Queens Guards played your Nat anthem just after 911. It beats our monotonous dirge hollow.

Music is a very powerful tool. But only on a short-term basis, with limited impacts. It's not for nothing some hip shopping stores play dance songs... they make you feel like you own the place. But when you get out, you forget all about it, and whatever shopping spree you did makes you feel dumb.

Mommie Dark: Love mp3's too, huh? Hurray for MP3's!!!

I am mostly a 2 on this on mindfield. I however have had one musician whose music speaks to me. I feel like I am hearing my own thoughts being sung on the radio and that is alanis, especially with her 2nd album and her unplugged cd. So I do believe some music can influence you, but for the most part it is very short term....however music cannot make you kill someone or anything...
