Old timers still occasionally refer to the organization as "Mother" or even "Mama". I think it's based on the scripture somewhere that talks about "Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother". The "inspired" er "spirit-directed" interpretation of "Jerusalem above" is "God's organization".

Yes Ive heard this reference and as long as the throngs believe the society is their mother, then they will be the subservient child. You do NOT question mother. You ALWAYS listen to mother. You are always DUMBER than mother. You can never be bigger or more knowing or more powerful than mother. You will never be allowed to grow up and be an independent Christian and will ALWAYS be totally dependent on mother to do your thinking for you, to feed you what you need to know, and to be protected from all outside evils. Mother will scold and punish you when you step out of line and I dont care if you are 90...you will never graduate from her school.
something is seriously wrong with people who would follow that kind of thinking.

Actually, the "anointed" consider Jehovah their father and Jesus their brother, but for the other sheep, Jesus is their father, the anointed (Christ's bride) their mother and God their grandfather.

Hey, that's another idea for the long-overdue wedding between the gb and Jehovah -- release some Quaker parakeets after the ceremony. They'll join their feral companions in the wild and make life miserable for fruit growers in New York. The gb would approve of that.

The Watchtower is a goddess. A mother goddess. They are pretty honest about that. In the Revelation ClimaXX book, there is a picture of Kenny Rogers Jesus dancing with the goddess consort, the Queen of Heaven. I have told my JW that when you are just learning it is helpful to have a teacher to give you the milk, but there comes a time when you must stand up like a man and wean yourself from your mother's teats and start eating meat.

I never heard the term during my tenure with the WTS. It wasn't until JWD that I started hearing this term.
Mother-like organization may have been mentioned occaisionally in literature but never recall it during conversations.

I can't recall hearing that, here in wt fundieland.
I remember maternal references, bride of christ, etc., but I can't recall anyone calling it "mama". Gross.
