Part of the problem is that the typical JW use of the Bible mainly consists in quoting isolated verses in reply to non-Biblical questions, not reading the texts...

    LOL!

That's exactly one of the favorite points of our current CO!

He says that you shouldn'tread the Bible, you should study it. And of course his definition of "study" is "pull isolated texts related to a theme out of context and compare them."

When I attended one of the first "pioneer school" classes in the late 70's, one of our instructors (a CO) told us: "Put Bible reading first. All the rest you'll have to do anyway. If you don't put it first you'll find that you actually never read the Bible."

Whether or not he was an exception (as far as I remember that was not in the textbook), he did confirm the rule -- that plain Bible reading is hardly a priority in the mandatory, i.e. effective, JW (pioneer, elder) schedule...

The gods in the bible are space men

And moving from an artificial interpretive pattern to a more artificial one is a step forward, I suppose...

There is no logical reason why codes of morality should be so confusing, complicated, or difficult to understand that it takes a special class of people or any Holy Spirit to teach it to others. In fact, I understand it far better now that I have refused any spiritual monosodium glutamate from the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger than I ever did while I was a witless (or, for that matter, a Catholic). And, as long as one sticks with the core of morality, it is no more difficult to understand than it is to learn your multiplication tables. (Which, for me, took about 10 seconds.)

It's when you start adding complex interpretations to things, use the Bible to attempt to predict specific events, and control others' lives that it becomes difficult to understand. Most of the "deeper things" put out by the Washtowel Babble and Crap Slaveholdery actually mean precisely nothing (and will soon be changed anyways). It is a complete waste of time to learn the different deals, classes, and type/antitypes that are all but identical. When you have 18 different classes that everyone belongs to all of them, why waste the time learning the tiny differences that are going to be changed the next time a washtowel touches on it?

When I'm reading bible I really feel no need for any outside help, it is not advanced mathematics after all, it was written by simple people, sheppards and fishermen

I wish I could get my wife to do that. I even suggested it one time. She thought I was crazy. "Why would I do that?" was her Borg-inspired response.

I can well believe that..That is just what most would say. But have you ever wondered how we would have reacted if the boot had been on the other foot? Suppose it had been ourselves left in and our partners that had faded and stopped their "service"?

I know that I would have tried all ways to reason , to listen and would have jumped at the idea of reading Scripture. I would no doubt have suggested it. Even if she had been d/f'd , I would have ignored the rules and kept trying....It does not work the other way, does it?
