Jeff, while I think this video shows that it's author goes a bit far in beliefs,
I think it makes an excellent point at the very end about why Horus and Jesus
(or any other mythical deity and Jesus) have so much in common.

I cannot believe ALL of it is coincidental.

But.. but... but they DON'T have much in common.

That was sort of the point we have been making

What did Horus have to do with the sun?

    OTWO:

I am so glad you got to see that. I sent the link to my closest of friends before
it went to the whole site, afraid that the large number of hits would make them
pull the movie from the web. I doubt they have permission to post the entire
movie. Watch it while you can.

I tried the link above. the video was removed for infringement (no duh)..I will just go rent it ..or maybe check it out from the local public library....a lot of libraries have it in their networks.

I have to confess my prejudice: if I were starving and Bill Maher was giving away fried chicken, I'd choose to eat nettles.

    I can't stand Maher.

As for the Jesus/Horus thing, I just keep in mind that 80% of everything is bullshit.

What did Horus have to do with the sun?

Actually, Horus has much to do with the sun -- but it is overly simplistic to reduce Horus to the status of a sun-god. Horus represented the sky, his two wings embracing both halves of the sky with one eye representing the sun and the other eye representing the moon. The sun is thus an aspect or hypostasis of Horus and had its own "Horusine" character, whether as "Horus of the horizon" (Ra-Harakhti), "Horus of Behdet", or "Horus in the horizon" (Har-em-akhet). Of course Re was the preeminent sun god of Egypt, so the several solarized Horus cults essentially identified their solar aspects with Re (e.g. Ra-Harakhti, "Re who is Horus of the Horizon"), and syncretistically drew on Re. But Horus was at the same time a moon god, with different phases of the moon representing different Horusine aspects, such as Mekhenty-er-irty ("He without eyes") which represents the new moon and Khenty-irty ("He with eyes") representing the emerging visible crescent after the new moon.

I think the question is rather: What does Jesus have to do with the sun? The video linked above that asserts an identity between Jesus and the sun is especially tendentious (I guess I could go into this more later).
