Not all of us have wooden homes. Many of us live in trailer parks LOL.

Yes we drive automatics. Except when we drive standards.

I became a proud American again about a week ago. For about eight years prior I was a bit embarrassed.

There is life outside of America. And they are all a bunch of communists. (Just kidding, I've visited a few other countries and loved it every time).

We are descended from the British. We just have better teeth.

I love fast food. And my body was fine with it until I hit my 30s. (Time to work out again!)

Thank you for your condescending questions.

As far as wooden homes, my home (in a small Southern town) is wooden, and it it is over 100 years old.

As for being proud of being American; I just happened to be born here. I am happy to live here and there are times I am proud of my country and times I am ashamed. I view myself more as a world citizen.

Do we bother to find out about the world around you? I certainly do, one of my favorite things to do is travel both here and abroad. My idea of travel is to experience my destination as if I lived there, not just as a tourist.

My husband is Native American, I am descended from the British, Irish and the Scots.

Fast food has its place but it definitely is not the bigger part of our diet. I love to cook from scratch and am very careful to prepare healthy (and hopefully delicious) food.

Am I and my husband typical? Probably not, but that is one of the things that make this country so interesting; it really is a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures. It is so large that there are big differences even within our borders; different accents, differences in cuisine, attitude and culture. You're sure to be fascinated when you come.

At least we're better than that country called Europe where everyone has to speak French or they won't get their free stuff (everything but your car is free in Europe, paid for by 90% taxes on work not done because they all vacation 266 days per year)!

As far as the material our home consists of it really depends on the region of the country you reside in. For instance, I live in Georgia which is in the southeastern part of the U.S. The majority of the homes are made of brick, some stucco and others a mix of stone and brick. I have a brick home.

Iam a very proud American and very thankful to live in this country. We have our problems too but it still has wonderful opportunites for those who are willing to work hard. I have traveled all over and as Dorthy said in the Wizard of Oz,"there is no place like home", which for me is the USA.

Just an honest statement here, no offense intended, please take none.

You ask us if we know there is a world outside of the US? And your questions are all about the world outside of your own - a world that is far more highly advertised than SA for instance. Seems like the pot [uneducated about America] is charging the kettle with blackness [lack of education about the rest of the world.]

Just seems odd. As I stated - no offense intended. I would be asking similar questions about SA if I was planning a trip there - but would have tried to sound less insulting in the way the questions were asked. Just a guess - but I bet you know more about the place you live than the rest of the world - YOu are aware that there is another world out there aren't you? [Just kidding.]

America is a country, but also an idea. The idea is more important than the political entity.

There are a couple of things I'd like to know about you guys:

** Why does it seem that SO many have wooden homes?

My home is brick most homes in florida are brick. I grew up in a brick home in Cleveland Ohio

** 401k - is this a pension plan of sorts & are you obligated to take one?

401K is a do it yourself pension plan. A person can defer a porition of his income before taxes

and pays the taxes when he retires and has a lower tax burden.

** Do most of you drive an automatic?

My wife and I both have automatics. But if you have a sports care you want a manual.

** Are really proud to be an American?

Not proud of the politicians. I think if a person is not happy where he is he should move or

change things. Being an ex JW, I dont get proud. I mean I dont understand proud. It's not biblical.

** Do you bother to find out about the world around you? yes there is a world outside of you guys.

Scenery is nice. You can watch the travel channel. And see places in books.

It has always seemed most of the world wants to come here to live.

So I always figured the rest of the world was worse off than us. Although I think there are

some hidden paradises. It all depends on what you want. America has a wide variety of climates.

If you want socialized medicine you have to move to Canada or someplace that has it.

** What is this American Dream & do you believe in it?

Being raised a witness I never had a dream. So I dont know what the Amreican dream is.

Maybe for everyone to have a house. Now that everyone bought a house, and those that cant afford

houses, the country is having financial problems, Probalby because everyone bought a house

and then the Government exported all of the jobs. The math dont work.

** Aren't you really just decended from the british anyways?

I am German and Irish. I think the British decended from the Germans at least thats the history I read.

The Queen of England and her family are Germans the last I read.

** Is fast food your way of life?

Somewhat, but I try to make it healthy, I often get a grilled chicken sandwich and chilli. Low fat high fiber.

I think we work too much in America, we dont get the leisure time that other places do so we dont

    have time to cook.

just prodding and poking around, doing a lil bit of ground work.

  • wha happened?
    wha happened?

** Why does it seem that SO many have wooden homes?

    You said wood

** 401k - is this a pension plan of sorts & are you obligated to take one?

No. Lately I don't look at the statements because it's lost so much value

** Do most of you drive an automatic?

I prefer stick but my current is automatic

** Are really proud to be an American?

    No

** Do you bother to find out about the world around you? yes there is a world outside of you guys.

As much as I can. I love to read about other cultures

** What is this American Dream & do you believe in it?

I am it and I believe

** Aren't you really just decended from the british anyways?

Not me, I'm the bastard child of a Spaniard and a local Indian

** Is fast food your way of life?

    More like death

For those of you that answered these straight forward questions thanks.

Those that felt offended, well then you're offended.

American media (TV & Cinema) do paint a stereo-type picture of what you guys are. Print is different obviously and also paints another picture, that is why I asked seemingly arb questions from every day Americans to get your truth & perspective of it.

AK-Jeff - the pot calling the kettle black - Coming from africa I appreciate that! However, our education system has a curriculum that includes American, European, British as well as our own history, economics. We may come from a 3rd world country yet we are very well educated on what goes on outside of our country / continent / hemisphere & cosmos. Again the reason I asked these questions is that I wanted to hear from the "horses mouth", the every day person for a change and not go by what is portrayed in movies & print media. No offence taken what soever btw.

Another thing that puzzled me is why a "world series" would be played and yet it's only states from America that play in this "world series".

(I don't stroke egos all that well)

  • wha happened?
    wha happened?
