At least our 'ignorance' of nature and therefore the 'creation' of the god illussion and the religions DOES have the power to destroy; it's effects are well documented... so hopefully whatever 'knowledge' of nature we can muster may offset the effect of the ignorance...
So if ignorance has 'real power in nature' (as you call it and whatever that may mean) hopefully knowledge will have 'real power' also...
Religion as a major driving factor is almost done... For now... To assume that we're heading for some kind of bright 'star trek' future and the eventual demise of most (if not all) of the major religions is a bit naive though. We could have a massive plague, war, earthquake, asteroid impact etc that could put us right back into tribal survival mode and religion would be a bit hit again.
Dog I agree with you in theory, however I feel that religion as a method of controlling the masses has reached it's breaking point and new improved methods will be coming around. The soviet union didn't fail because of it's lack of religion as the vast majority of russians remained religious in their private lives. It failed because of it's government and economic structure!
